well...the LFS was closed today...even though they said come by to pick up the fish this weekend...

I also got the camera...but I have a few problems. I can't set a custom white balance...no matter how many times I try
...the the tank looks SUPER blue. (You would think with the bulb combo I'm using that the tank would be blue...but really its a crisp white with a blue/purple tint).
The camera's setting are sooooo confusing lol...so the pictures aren't even good quality

I finally got the hang of the white balance in photoshop
so if I could take decent pics then I could easily edit them to represent the true colors of the tank.
I just can't get the camera settings right...all the pics turn out bad, blurry, or dark. I need some help...and I've been reading all about reef photography...

what camera is it?
I like to take pictures with a custom white balance by using a coffee filter on top the lens and shooting at the tank. then i shoot in RAW so that i can adjust the white balance in adobe lightroom. But even then, I've hardly had to use light room. My white balance is pretty on point. If you have a canon, I can try to get a reference image for you to use when you set your white balance. Also, try shooting in ISO 200, 1/60, f5.6. if its too dark still. lower to 1/50. if it stil too dark, raise iso to 400 and go back to 1/60.

nike - thank you so much for that! those settings really helped. I have a nikon D40...and no matter what method or settings I try...the stupid thing wont set the white balance.

Well...before I leave tomorrow morning I'd thought I would finally post some pictures. My camera skills still suck...but have gotten better.
Note: I tried as hard as I could to get the white balance correct. Every picture is very close to what it actually looks like.
(excuse the ugly mess...the media is in the sand since the sump isn't hooked up...and for that same reason the chaetos temporary home is the powerheads. I also started scraping coraline algae off some of the tank and overflow...I still need to finish that up as well)
FTS: (the tank in real life is much more crisp and a tad brighter...there is also a little more white.

A few of the clown:

Firefish:

Live rock:

that's all I have for now...I will post much more when my tank is all cleaned up.

so...I finally got the other firefish! This one is quite a bit larger than the other...but they are swimming around together. I've noticed right off the bat that both of them are alot more confident now cause there are two of them. They are always out in the open and hardly seem skittish...yet...
The newbie did have some bit up fins...but thats why I picked him...now he can enjoy a peaceful life in my tank. And the two of them are inseparable.
My emerald crab either molted or died...
I see its exoskeleton but it looks like a real crab. Idk how the crab got out of the thing if he did molt. I haven't seen the new one yet so idk if its dead or its waiting for its new skeleton to harden while its hiding. Ideas?
Oh...and I got this $5 frag of GSPs that are now on the bottom of my tank in the sandbed. At the LFS they were growing on the bottom of the tank...so it looks like a tree branch. Some of the polyps have already come out. The problem is that the polyps are all the way around the 'branch' so i put it in the sand with half the polyps touching...is that ok or bad? The ones that can come out are starting to...so thats good i guess.
I will post pics soon.

fixed the problem...I draped the GSP branch thingy over a rock (isolated on the sandbed) so all the polyps can fully come out now. Im just hoping they attach to it soon...

yay...the seller threw in another candy cane just in case the mushroom frag dosent make it since it was hard fragging it.

yay they uploaded finally!
they are iphone quality...
I tinted this one a tad greener to better show the neon green color of the GSP.

This is my new shroom. Idk what it is. ID? Green shroom? haha

FTS. I scraped the coraline off the back and side walls and put that chaeto in the overflow box (sump still not hooked up). Crappy quality...In real life its whiter and way more CRISP CRISP CRISP !

I thought over my stock list a little bit. I'm not gonna get a flame hawk after all...my firefish are SUPER HAPPY and I don't want them being picked on...
I considered getting another clownfish to go with the one I have now...but idk if that will work out good? judging from my pics...what type of clown is mine anyways?
I'm gonna let my new shipment of corals (coming tomorrow
) settle in for a few weeks before I buy another fish...so far here are my thoughts:
current stock:
-misbar clown
-2 firefish
future stock:
-pygmy (cherub) or flameback angel
-possibly another clown fish...opinions please?
-and now for my main dillema: blenny or wrasse???
I figure the blenny would be MUCH more personable and demonstrate the whole perched on rock behavior (since all my other fish are active swimmers)...but a wrasse...well they are super COLORFUL haha. Recommendations on which blenny or wrasse?
