Got home a little while ago...immediately changed out 1G with ro/di
tested ph....a tgeeny bit low so added a little buffer
AMmonia and nitrites are at 0 YAYY
IN an hour I will change out another gallon....we are at 1.019.......this may take a few days....LOL
OH YEAH....he is having a blast in (and out) of the sand box....LOL...making a real mess too

The easiest way to change water is to take out all the water you plan to remove for a day, then slowly add the FW. The dilution you are using will take longer for sure.

OH...LOL....so how much should I change between now (7 p.m....and 10 p.m.) and if you say 3gallons.....take all 3 out.....and slowly over the course of the next couple of hours add back???

Yes, that is what I mean. You will get double the rate then your current pace. You can do 3 more gals, or 2.

OK...took out 2 1/2 gallons......added 1/2G back....
gonna wait 30 minutes...add another 1/2 etc etc

If youa re talking about during a normal water change, you are suppossed to add it all back at the same time
just turn the filter off while you are doing the change

OK, but let's say that there is a fish in qt... and you do what Beth recommended.. how do you avoid the microbubbles? Leave the filter off for a couple of hours until you add all of the water?

Well...since I did not get any bubbles....IDK...LOL....it was really only 2" so it was just a slight waterfall :)
OK...my change is done and the water is down to 1.015 WHOOPIE......tomorrow night I should be down to the 1.009 then the count down begins

Micro bubbles aren't really a concern in the QT. As the salinity gets lower you will barely have them, if at all. Nothing to worry about.

Changing 3 gallons tonight....HOPEFULLY that will bring me to 1.009...and tomorrow will be day 1 of hypo

Tomorrow will work fine. You really need to take the salinity reading after the water has been mixing in QT for a few hours at least. 3 weeks in hypo should be good. This fish has had no signs of ich yet anyway.

OK...I will do more tomorrow.....bring it to 1.009
NOPE...No signs at all.....this fish is a horse...LOL....3 weeks of hypo...then bring salinity back up, BUT I need to leave the DT empty right??? How long for that 6 weeks???

I have a question. What is the ideal amount of time to have the salinity dropped? Is it possible for the ich to adapt to the change in salinity (much like doing it gradually for the fish)?

There have been some claims that ich can adapt to lower salinities, but I haven't really seen anything definitive about that. I doubt that would happen unless the parasite was made to make that adaptation very slowly which doesn't happen in your standard hypo process.
Some here will argue that several more weeks are needed beyond 3 weeks, however, the life cycle of ich is less than 3 weeks, and ich can not live in a fishless environment. It can not complete its life cycle without fish. So, I have always had success with 3 weeks.
With hypo, it takes a few days more to get to hypo, and then several days to bring salinity levels back to normal, so in my exp. that is all that is needed.
Be diligent, and look at you fish at least twice a day using a magnifying glass to see if you see spots.

OK...get home today,...we are at 1.011....I just removed 3Gallons.....put 1/2 gallon back...and will add more slowly over the next 2 hours
BETH: I know you say hypo 3 weeks for this guy....BUT...How long do I need to leave the DT empty of fish to make sure I have the best chance of killing off the parasite?
September 10 was the day we removed goby....so let's say September 11 is day one of fallow tank
