I have seen a lot of new user names on the forums! That's great! I just wanted to bump this thread for those of you who may be looking to research into more detail about the hobby and give you some direction to go into. By the way, a lot of this information is also available on my "professional development" website www.dixiereef.com if you want more up to date information. The website is updated weekly with new articles and pictures. Please stay tuned!

Here's an idea for a thread for us newbies. A glossary of terms. EG: Water parameters, Refugiums, Aquascaping, Diatom Removal and Algae Scrubber. Just to name a few. Maybe even a short Dictionary. Sounds stupid I know but some of us newbies feel stupid asking experienced veteran Aquarists, such as yourself, what Macroalgae or Detritus is. I for one am afraid to ask questions like this because I don't want you thinking, "God, doesn't this guy know anything?" and we realy want/need answers. Thanks

I'm thinking not. Compiling a glossary would be a lot of work, and most newbies probably won't use it anyway. I, for one, and other experienced hobbyists on this site, welcome any question, and always answer politely, even if it is the tenth time we have answered it. We were all newbies at one time or another. I think there is an advantage to having newcomers actually ask questions and interact with members here - it gives them confidence for later, when the questions become more difficult.

Im not going to do the glossary. For thr most part, this forum already has a couple floating around. Also, you can look at the glossary of terms in any recently published marine aquarium book to get exact definitions that have citations. Too much work for me right now while i am in my lat year of college.

I just wanted to take the time to welcome all the new people to the forum!... and to bump this thread.

This needs to be on the top of the New Hobbyist section, I can't ever remember the name of the thread to search to advise new folks to check it out. This info is needed almost every time someone new comes on the site, any idea of how to go about doing that?

If you think so... petition the mods. I personally can't do anything about it. I'd like a sticky, but I know that's not going to happen, since it's "My" methods and not just general saltwater information.

I have no idea how to "petition" the mods, can't we just ask Meowzer? I know you call it "your methods" but actually it's basic how to stuff. There are many different ways to do things, that is one of them and the method you chose to share...I don't see that as so difficult to put up as a sticky. The one there already is just a little outdated.

Lol, like that is ever going to happen. I guess I should start writing one that is cleaned up. Instead of "MY METHODS" it should just be "Successful methods for Marine Aquariums."

That's a good title... but new members have to be able to find the threads, so you can't change the name now. Maybe use that title for the book when you write it.
