LOL! "Personal and vast experience." Thanks for the compliment Flower. I highly doubt I know enough to cover everything.
I know most people aren't even going to read it! And that's ok with me! It's kind of a personal goal of mine to finally complete something. Besides, it would give a pretty good basis for a hobbybook later on?
Kiefers - I DO HAVE OTHER HOBBIES!!! To name a few: entertaining the wife, doing taxidermy work, reading, researching, writing, GARDENING, cleaning, etc. etc. I do have other things that I do! LOL! But thank you for being concerned! Hah, I have a 70 foot by 36 foot garden that I plant every Spring, Summer and sometimes Fall! That takes up a lot of my time. lol
Thanks Mike.

LOL...not after seeing that list you made. I have read books not covering that much information, I won't have anything to talk about...I will just have to say ..Go ask snake, he covered that information ...... Poor Professor Spanko and Florida Joe, Your stickies will puch theirs to the lowest depths, where nobody will see them.
Moderator took me seriously..
...Like Darth is the only entertainment around here.

I dont think it will though there are always people that do not want to read things like this but there are alot of people that want to read others take on things and pick and choose what they want to try and do.
I think its a good idea. and can not wait to start reading some of his tips and techniques.
Thanks
Mike

I agree with Michael 100%. It seems to be the rule of thumb in this hobby that people will pick and choose what they want to try, most likely due to their own previous experience or conceived notions or even how much they want to spend..... Plus to be honest I know in my case i predominantly troll the DIY section so the only reason i clicked on this was because Snake started it (I'm interested in an ATS) and had seen that you, Flower, had commented on it lol. So there will always be people like me that don't want to look at stickies and instead will just ask a question that has been asked/answered 1000000000000000000000000000 times. also there are always advancements in the hobby so some info will go "out of date" of sorts

Um, I think it's called a blog, you should look into it if this is what you want to do.
Not to be mean but it seems a little pompous in my opinion to want to cover all of those topics considering the vast content.
It rather implies that you feel you are an expert on all of these subjects. I think we have many knowledgeable members of this forum. For it to be made as stickies or promoted on the site would mean the site was endorsing it and quite frankly, there are many, many ways to do things not one person's opinion on how it should be done.

I don't think I said that at all so please don't put words in my mouth. I'm not going to argue with you, it's my opinion. You asked for opinions, you got mine, just don't twist my words around.
Saxman and Renee are considered to be experts (although this is not how they refer to themselves) in all things that sting. They have their website and people who want more information especially their spin on things, are directed to go over and have a look. People who want the information that is their experience, their knowledge, their insight can go there. They also answer questions on the forum but people don't have to weed through a plethera of threads related to their knowledge to navigate the forum.
Sorry, but it just seems odd to want to take the time to put all of this on a forum. A forum is more of a question and answer by definition:
"a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged'
Do we really need one persons opinions on each and every matter as if there is no other way?
I don't know it just seems very insulting to those who are very knowledgable in the hobby but don't have to boast or put themselves out there so much.

With all due respect, I think what Snake is doing is great for everyone here.
Agreed that you are entitled to your opinion Smartorl, but the definition, "A meeting or meduim where...", doesn't stricly imply an interrogative process but simply a place where ideas and views are exchanged, which is how I am looking at Snake's process. He is sharing his knowledge of the hobby for other enthusiasts, and if I recall correctly he did mention that it is his personal way of doing things, but I don't think he said the right way, and actually quite the contrary he expressed there are many ways to do one thing.
I think that if people have tried new ways of doing something that has given them success, we should be encouraging them to share their views and ideas instead of condemning them to placing the information elsewhere (personal website), where it's not as accessible for new hobbyist, such as myself. This is some people's only resource for information besides their LFS.
This forum has tons of great information, and if you want it to be strictly question/answer structured, it is greatly going to inhibit the amount of info that is available to all
hobbyist.
I don't think it is an insult to any experts in the hobby because the more information available is beneficial to everyone, and as far as I'm concerned if I were an expert in something, I would want to benefit everyone in my field by giving as much information to them as possible.

Nice job, Mr. Seth...
I see people's points here, but setting up a new tank... is well... setting up a new tank. Especially for newcomers to the hobby. 99% of the time they don't want to do something different or anything. They want something simple and easy to follow, and this is what snake has here.
I do think that it would be wrong in a way to write a string of articles in the same way for more advanced/depateable topics, I think those things are more reserved for people to discuss on this forum, etc... UNLESS the article goes like this: "There are several different ways to do this certain thing. There is way 1, way 2, and way 3. Way 1 is done like this...etc", of course unless the ways are depateable in themselves, which is often times the case.
I don't know if I'm making much sense here. LOL.

Your joking, right? Seth took the time to write out all of these articles to help new hobbyists. And now your being rude to him because you didn't do that yourself?
As I said, the topics that he is covering are very basic and they just serve as a draft for new hobbyists. Of course I would have had your thoughts if they were depatable or could be done several ways. With all due respect,
-traveler.

I search this forum all the time for info. I'm glad that now snakes posts will be part of the search. When I'm looking for info I'll read several threads before I make a decision. I also know a common problem I have when searching is finding threads from 10 yrs ago and nothing relevant that is recent. It may be because I don't search the right terms or what ever. I think his posts will be another weapon in the arsenal of info when people are researching things. I may never follow a word of his advice, but at least it's something to consider when making decisions

I have never described myself as an expert. In fact, I don't believe I am at all. I am just trying to share what I have learned over the years. There are PLENTY of other very advanced, very knowledgeable and very experienced members on this board, which we all have mutual respect for each other. BUT, I don't feel that by posting MY METHODS that I am stepping on any toes. I ALWAYS welcome other opinions and contributions to articles.
Now, the day that I graduate from USM as a Marine Biologist, and then proceed to graduate school, I might get more cocky and be a self described expert, but until that day, I'm a humble amateur saltwater hobbyist.

Seriously? He asked for opinions, I gave mine. Sorry if you guys wanted to hear something else. And, whippersnapper, chillax, I am not rude because I didn't do it myself. If someone has a question in an area I am knowledgeable, I will gladly help. I have been in the hobby a long time and have learned a lot of things the hard way and don't want others to have to make the same mistakes. I just simply don't feel that I need to be so forward as to need to share my opinions and ways of doing things. I'm sorry, I'm more reserved, maybe that's it. If he wants to do it, it's fine, he asked if anyone was anticipating the info. I just think the info is there.
We all post build threads and updates, I just think its odd to post THAT many threads when the information is out there. A blog would be a better premise, in my opinion, for this type of documentation.
I know you claim to not see this as cocky but I see it as being very cocky. Maybe that is not your intent but it is how I took it. You do tend to be opinionated, I am as well, but when someone doesn't agree or questions you, you do seem to come off as having an attitude at being questioned or doubted.

I was told before if I don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. I am having trouble sticking to this advice.
Although, I do agree that snake does have some valuable advice. However, I feel that I agree with smartorl. This is a forum based on the exchange of ideas.

I would like to quote lion_crazz:
"I am happy you brought that up. I am not discouraging people to stop posting by any means. I simply wanted to make this thread so that people were able to properly use the archives, if they wanted. Sometimes, someone will post a thread and either no one responds or they do not get an answer fast enough. Well, if that is the case, they can revert to this thread and find many of the answers that they might be looking for."
https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/264597/a-list-of-extremely-helpful-threads-for-all-hobbyists
It's just my way of doing things, take it or leave it. I don't care, but I think arguing about NOT doing it is pointless.

OK...I will say one thing....sometimes I get annoyed when I answer a poster....and you come behind me and TOTALLY ignore what I said....kinda repeat it..BUT just add one more thing
Instead of trying to say do as Snake says....LOL...WHy not acknowledge that a previous posters advice was GOOD, BUT they might also want to consider doing this...or that....
and TRAVELER...DO NOT agree or disagree with me

Honestly think that writing an article would be a better solution to multiple threads. Just a thought...
