This is a great thread.
Put my two cents in on the subject.
A very good friend, who got me into SW, had a green carpet anemone that he has had for just at a year, and it was in an established tank for three before he got it. Only the creator knows for sure how old it was before its previous keeper got it. I am waiting for it to split, if it does. This is an act of nature that I would love to witness.

You will probably waiting for a long time, most carpets breed sexually in nature, and usually under stress they will split, if the carpet is happy...well the odds are low.
