Hef,
I am still working on a reef tank. I dont see you around work anymore, but I will need your help when I finally get started
Ahhh. Haha. Hey man - just now realized who you were. I totally missed what "conman" was. Yeah, it's been a while. I'll definitely help out when you're ready to get things rolling. I'll start keeping my eye open again for a good deal for you. And you'll have to stop by whenever you're around first ward. But anyway - this is definitely the place to get some good info as you're getting started.

You could have said you're a doctor! Here I am trying to sound all smart and stuff
I am glad you know it, they told me it will work but you have to do the full dose what ever that is...like three days of dosing.
Thats funny just had a Dr appt and was talking to him about the same thing. He has a reef too. He offered some other things as well, but was unsure of dosage and if it would harm beneficial bacteria. told him to try it on his tank and let me know. He went
looked just like that!

yeah, but truly, being a doc helps very little. I might know a little more about the "active ingrediant," but other than that - it doesn't help much. Actually fish are harder to take care of than patients, honestly.
And I also thought of just getting some meds and using them instead... it's probably safe, but figured I'd rather not take the chance. You never know though - I could try them out and could walk in the next day to see a perfectly clear tank. but then it could end up as a perfectly dead tank too.
But I bought Maracyn and Maracyn 2 along with the prazi pro that I treated my queen with. Maracyn is simply erythromycin. The cyano would have to get a bit worse before I would try killing it with antibiotics. I prefer to kill it by starvation and good water quality so it doesn't come back.

Man you have a sweeeet 180. It would be better as a reef but it is sick
Got an updated FTS? What kind of stock list do you have?

Hey iyachtuxivm. Things going well with the angels. Eating great and healing up well. Unfortunately the lion never really showed ambition to eat much and slowly weakened and died. He was quite small, and just never did very well from the beginning. I went to my LFS though and requested that they look for a black volitian for me. They found one last week and now he's in my QT! Looks great - and really is quite black-ish. AND this fella is eating like a champ! ate frozen immediately. So all good there. I'll try to post a couple pics this weekend.
And thanks mboswell! Me too!)
Regarding my "algae scrubber", it is starting to grow quite a bit of nasty green algae on it. I still have the cyano in the display - but it does seem to have backed off some... fingers crossed!

yea cant wait to see those pics!I love lions. I really like the foomanchoo though.Maybe someday ill get the aggressive tank. Right now Im stuck on this reef thing love it more, so much cool stuff!
I got some chemiclean from my boss today, said it works great on cyano. After my last arrangement and new koralia my cyano has backed off a little too not totally so may try the chemiclean.

chemiclean worked well on my 55 reef when I had some cyano there. It didn't have any adverse affects on the coral/inverts. But for some reason, it hasn't been affective at all on my 180. I'm not sure why.
If I were you, I would watch a little longer and see if the cyano continues to regress before using the chemiclean. You may have already made the necessary adjustments.

I plan to wait about a week or more before using it. This week is a little crazy so I dont know when ill do my water change, dont want to mess this up.

Yeah, make sure you have a good air supply, turn off skimmer, and do the water change. Your skimmer will go nuts when you turn it back on.

how is that turf filter working for you?
The plastic canvas is just not really getting quite a bit of growth. It seems to be more slime type algae than macro algae at this time. Hopefully as time goes on, the macro algae will grow more. It still hasn't done a great job getting rid of the cyano though. I'm taking pics of the progress.

FTS pleeeeease!

I went to take a FTS pic tonight, but decided to clean the tank first. So things are cloudy now - but I'll get one once it clears.
I got a couple of the lion in the QT though. I'm uploading them now to photobucket and will post when they're done.

Pet the nice lion.

Beautiful lion, looks very heatlhy too. You do get used to these guys after a while. When I first got my fuzzy dwarf, I was paranoid when putting my hand in the tank. Now I don't even pay attention to it. Earlier today I was cleaning the tank and completely forgot there was a lion in there.

yeah, I love how social it is - just follows you back and forth like a puppy dog. I've been told that the sting isn't too bad though - something like a really bad bee sting. But sorry - I doubt I'll be trying to pet it to find out!
