Hefner's 180 Thread

Hey Crypt.. I wish that were the case. The original emp that I had as a Juvi passed shorted after adding it to the DT a while ago - was unsure of why. The original queen had done great though... until the big crash... I briefly mentioned it earlier. And I lost it all except the striped dogface and the clown and the eels. I still have no idea what caused it at the time. I don't think there's anything that I've messed up... I'm usually pretty cautious.
SO I'm in the process of "starting over" regarding my stock list. Everyone seems to be doing fine now. Eating well...

Well... I seemed to diagnose prematurely... the spots seem to have resolved now - I'm pretty certain it was just lympho on the fins instead of Ick. Too bad I took out all the rocks.. Well, I needed to redo them anyway... oh well.
Well, being that I had my DT emptied out, I went ahead and placed another order with SWF. I'm really impressed with what they sent. Kim at SWF was great too. Honestly, I only order from them now.. they make my local shop look terrible.
Here's what I got:
1. Harlequin Tusk (Indian ocean) - about 4.5 in - was suppose to be a "small" - awesome
2. Bluethroat trigger - male - about 6.5 in
3. Blue tang - 4.5 in
4. Radiata Lion - Small - I hope it grows quick
5. Foxface - 5 in
I know it's quite a bit to add at one time, but I watch param's close and do water changes if need. They seem to be getting along pretty well so far. The bluethroat and the blue tang are quite bashful still.
Well, I'm pretty sure that's going to be my final additions! I'm really impressed with these new additions. I'm glad I chose the bluethroat and the tusk - these are quite impressive.
Some pics shortly...

hey skate. I took out all the LR and inverts and was just about to do hypo... but when I started second guessing myself if it was truly ick, I posted some pics in the disease section and Beth and company confirmed it looked more like lympho. So I started adding vitamins etc and it's cleared up. So luckily it looks like I won't need the hypo. I'm leaving out the LR for now though... just in case any spots show up with the new additions - I'll just do hypo then.

Some nice additions Hef. You hit it on the head, that is a lot of additions at once, so a close eye on params is key. If it were me, I would put all your LR back in, new fish need to feel safe and have places to hide.

yeah kjr. I'm debating going ahead and putting in the LR. I'll prob go ahead. I can just take it back out if I need to do hypo. And the LR will help with the new extra bio load. Thanks for the advice.

I put the LR back in tonight. They LOVE having the rock back in. I thought they would run and hide once it was back in. Instead they've been out constantly since. The tusk has been really shy up until tonight. Now it's all over the place.
Pics this weekend.

So far the tusk hasn't been aggressive at all. Although those teeth look like they could definitely do some damage. It's probably my fav fish right now. With how impressive these are, I wonder how impressive the Australian tusk is in comparison. I've heard they are worth the extra $$ according to those that have them.

looks awesome with the rock in:)
does it not scare you having such overhanging rockwork with eels?
is it sturdy enough for them to dive underneath it without it falling?

Thanks skate. I have arranging rock... I think it's pretty difficult to make it look good.
From my observation, most of the eel's force is when they are eating - when they shoot out of their hole and pull back in. The zebra is the largest, but only lives in the PVC in the back. It only fully comes out of the pvc at night. Thus no big worry with it. The SFE lives under the large base rock on the left. The base rock doesn't move at all now. Once it gets big though and can't live under there anymore, it may become an issue.
It's a reasonable concern though. Hopefully I don't end up regretting the arrangement some day. So far they haven't knocked over a rock though. Knock on wood..

Looks great Hef. Did I miss it previously, but what puffer (I think) in the back right of the tank in the video? Looked like a little Spiny Burr or Porky?

Great looking tank! I love your rock formation!
I know this is probably mentioned somewhere on the previous pages, but what skimmer do you have?

Actually added a small Porky. Got him when I got the angels as my free selection. Fun little fish. He'll actually jump out of the water to get food. I was worried about him and the striped dogface getting along, but they like each other just fine.

Thanks man. My skimmer is the super skimmer rated for 220. I should upgrade and likely will now that I have the larger load.

does your lion take frozen?
Well... not yet. I'm trying to, but it's not taking it. I may try ghost shrimp, but not sure how I'm going to get them to her without everyone else taking them. It's just so small and not very aggressive. Any rec's?
