Hey there,
I would suggest to run them 24/7 in the beginning when you are adding fish because the stakes are higher for an ich out break or something of that sort. Then, I would suggest to run them during the day after some period of time. Thats just my opinion though, good luck, and your tank looks great!

Well... Zebra and Striped dogface will be here tuesday!
I've been doing a bit of reading about DIY feeding recipes.
COULD I GET SOME ADVICE ON YOUR RECIPE'S? Most of the threads that I've been reading are for Reef tanks, not aggressive.
Here is my planned stocklist that this recipe would be for:
1. Blue tang
2. striped dogface puffer
3. blond naso tang
4. lunare wrasse
5. emporer angel
6. queen angel
and then the 2 eels - zebra and snowflake.
As always, thanks all!

I went to the Asian market. They had a seafood mix. Here's what the ingrediants say:
Blanched cuttlefish/sqid strip, blanched pud shrimp, cooked mussel, blanched octopus, imitation crab.
SO, I know I need to take out the imitation crab. What about the cooked mussel? Being cooked, can it stay in? AND "blanched" is ok, right? The stuff is still pretty much raw from what I understand, just quickly dipped in boiling water then into ice water. So is this ok?

Zebra and striped puffer are here!!! The Zebra is probably about 22 in. It was in a massive bag. The striped puffer, about 4in. They were pachaged very well. The zebra went straight into it's pvc pipe. It ventured around for a few minutes through the rock in the tank, then back into the pvc and has stayed since. I'll get some pics later on once the lights go on.

And some pics...
I took a pic of the zebra in the bag, but sorry - blurry.

Here he is in his new home! AND guess what?! I offered a silverside, and it wasn't really too interested.. but I wasn't too worried, being day 1. But I went ahead and offered a Krill also, and it took it! So I'm glad to say that it's eating already.

Here's striped dogface.

Here's my son, enjoying his new pets! -yeah, little nemo.. I know.. we're crazy

Actually Zebra eels are one of the only eels that get along with pretty much all fish. Many people actually keep zebras in reef tanks with community fish. Zebras aren't perfect, and can sometimes go for a fish, but this is quite rare. But overall they are one of the most docile eels and get along with just about anything. That's why I got em... and b/c it looks awesome!

Looks great! My Snowflake eel hates silversides too. It'll eat anything except that.
btw, your son's very cute. He sure loves looking at the fish.

Once again tonight, took krill without hesitation! but had a little more interest in the siverside.. but still didn't take it.
Thanks about my boy! We still don't know where he got his blue eyes. My wife and I both have brown. I've been trying to catch the mailman to check if he's got blue eyes...

Very nice, Heff
....Puffer looks a bit thin, but he will fatten up quick now that he is home.
Yeah, pretty thin... but like you said.. with the way he's eating now, he'll be huge in no time. He's such a pig. Already eats out of my hand. I have to distract him to feed the eel or he snags the food.
And the puffer is my son's favorite! He just follows him back and forth and when I put my son up to the tank, they have a little conversation. Quite amusing.

Thats good to know about the eel. Maybe someday I can talk my wife into letting me set up a tank like that.
It might happen!

Well. Once again, no probem with the krill. So I decided to put a krill on the stick first, and then a silverside. Thus the eel would have to eat the silverside first. He went right after it and pulled off the silverside and spit it out and then ate the krill. ... I just don't know about that! I figure that these little krill aren't doing much for him, so I got a large shrimp and cut it in half.
Here's a pic of dinner!

My eel loves squid, that's his all time favorite food. Goes really nuts for it.

hmm. I haven't tried squid yet. I'll try that tonight.
Just wondering... which are the best foods for the zebra? I was told not to have krill as the staple diet b/c they don't have much nutritional value. Do squid? Full size shrimp? etc?

Wow nice. I know I will live my eel dreams through you
.
I'll get some video once he's out more regularly. They are truly awesome to see in the open. I can't wait until mine gets more relaxed.
I'm not sure if there are any eels that are less prone to eat your tank's inverts. I know that you have a few inverts in your reef. A golden moray is a cool option for a reef, too, but quite $$$. But overall, I've heard that eels can be hit/miss when it comes to eating your tank's inverts... I read somewhere that one guy's cleaner shrimp cleaned his eel's mouth and the eel didn't care at all.
