Well, I'm glad to say that I looked in to see that the blue tang is entirely spotless, as is the puffer. The eel is still keeping to himself inside the pvc, but again I'm hoping that it's just hiding b/c of the rock removal.
Well, either way - 3 wks starts now!

Eels don't usually get ich so it's hard to spot the white dots on them. If they have any, it's usually around the eyes.

hmm. Thanks for the heads up. Think that it's current lack of activity is b/c of the change in environment? -like I'm hoping? or do you think it's from the change in salinity vs possible infection (haven't checked around the eyes)? I know that eels can do a "hunger strike" for upwards of a 1+month. Do they also not some out much during these times?

Fed the tank tonight...
zebra came out for some squid and said hi
I didn't see any spots on his face/around eyes at all. But then back into it's hole it went.

Hey Hef ! I was just wondering why during the hypo, why do you have to remove all the rocks-?

well, hypo kills bad stuff, but also kills good too - including all inverts, pods, and beneficial algae too. So the rock has to come out - I have the rock in a large tub with PH's and heater. water in tub is SG 1.025.
Ideally, you would even take out live sand, but that is virtually impossible obviously.
Overall, it's no fun... and it would be easier to just take the fish out and put them in a smaller hospital tank... but doing that is more stressful on the fish. So I decided to leave them all in and just take out 90% of the rock.
Things are still going good! Everybody looks quite healthy!

yeah, tell me about it! You should see it now with all the rock out for hypo. It looks SOO empty! I'm definitely going to be adding more, but I gotta go slow - as you see, I already messed up big time by not QT'ing my striped dogface puffer and thus my blue got ich - thus the hypo now.
Right now:
blue tang
blonde naso
lunare wrasse
striped dogface
2ft zebra eel
8in snowflake eel
Planning:
possibly 1 more med size fish..
and then eventually the prized additions:
Emporer angel
and maybe a Queen angel
I sure would like to do them both..
So I don't want to add too much, being that the fish I have will get quite large. I can't wait though! Now I just have to wait for hypo to finish and then once things stabilize, I'll start looking again.

Wow, I tell you what... my striped dogface is one pushy puffer. It fights over food no matter how much it has eaten. I try to feed him first so I can then get some food to the eels and other fish, but he just continues to try to fight for the food. He even bit a chunk of squid that was already in the zebra's mouth - but luckily the zebra made off with it.
And also, the fella goes after my hand as soon as it hits the water. I have to distract him to put the algae clips on the glass. I haven't actually been bitten, but with how easily he shreds squid and shelled shrimp, I don't want him to get a chance at a finger... Do any of you have similar puffers??? have any of you been bitten?

yeah really..
clown trigger is a tad different - kinda expect that, eh? But I thought puffers were suppose to be more like puppy dogs - personable, sweet, always awaiting your arrival... not ready to bite your finger off whenever you're close to the water. More like a lab, not a rottweiler.

You have it kinda right always awaiting your arrival TO bite your finger off. You see the personable, sweet is a ploy a trick to lure you in, they live off human flesh
I dont care what the lfs told you its true!!!

so you think the puffer would take a chunk off if it had the chance??
if so, I'm wondering if I should tell this to my mother in law who will be feeding the tank while I'm on vacation..
I saw a pic of a fella who supposedly had his finger bit off by a pp puffer. Don't know if it was real or not though.

nice thread! sorry about your trouble. I hope that is over now. what is the next fish to go in?
Yeah, all the fish are looking great. And the eel is coming out more and more now. Everybody is eating fine. I think all will be ok. I'm probably going to leave it at 1.009 for a full four weeks to be safe.
Regarding the next addition, I'm not entirely sure about that yet.
I know that I want the angels to go in eventually.. but not sure if the tank is ready for them yet. It'll probably be a 2-3 months before I start looking to put them in. Again, I'm definitely getting the Emperor and likely will get a Queen.
I am thinking of adding one more fish before I put in the angels, but don't want to overstock it. I'm just trying to look ahead to when they are all fully grown... What do you all think?

yeah... I like my mother in law. I guess it shows in that I trust her to feed my tanks. But this will be the first time she feeds the aggressive. Let's hope for no casualties!
Nope, I haven't see the teeth yet. I think they've stay decently worn down with it's eating of the shellfish.
hey iyachtuxivm.. what do you think about my next addition? got a preference?

I went looking at angles on line to answer this question. I like the juvenile emporor but not the adult. I dont know if they alway change the pattern and color if they do I dont care for the adult. The queen angles are awsome
love the colors.
Have you looked into either the annularis or the blueface angles? Those are both cool looking angles too! Seem like price is a little higher than the queen and about double the emporor. The care lvls and foods are comparible to both. If you were only to get one of your two choices id go queen.
What ever your choice is Im sure it will look wonderful in your tank.
Cant wait til hypo is done need pics of that wonderful eel!

Small update... I picked up my QT today. 55gal. I'll set it up tomorrow and start the cycle. That's definitely the next order of business before any more additions!
