I've always been scared of Tangs because they are supposed to be ich magnets. But I finally caved in and got a Powder Blue for my 150 and so far he seems fine. I QT him for a while then put him in my DT.
btw, what are those light colors spots on your Naso?

Naso's wash out like that when scared. Just like Foxfaces.

Just found and read this post as well. Congrats on the big tank, nice job.
Note of caution:
Keep an eye on the puffer and Hippo. The white spots disappearing my be them dropping off the "Hatch" and unleash a mess of Ich.
Keep a CLOSE EYE on everyone. The minute any other fish starts showing white spots go stock up on some Kick Ich. I had to do it once in my 240 and on big tanks it takes alot.
I have always wanted a Hippo but EVERYONE I talk to says they are Ich producing machines and it's not a matter of if it's when. So they scare the heck out of me. Nothing worse than battling an outbreak on these BIG tanks.
Joe
Yeah, I'm tremendously hoping that the spots disappearing is a good thing, but like you said - it can be a very bad thing... dropping/rehatching. Know how long you would give it before you said that they weren't doing the latter?
And I'm watching these guys SO much that I think they've lost all skiddishness about me. Instead of swimming away, all of them come and swim around in from of me.

And I would think that they do it more as a juvi too.

And regarding the "kick ich", I've seen this online. I was skeptical of it's effectiveness, but I also was impressed regarding their honesty in the product info statement (see underlined):
"Reef safe KICK-ICH ™ is a water treatment for the control of ich in marine and freshwater aquaria. It has been scientifically formulated to eliminate the free swimming, infectious stage of the ich life cycle
while being safe for all freshwater and marine aquaria. KICK-ICH ™ has a long shelf life at room temperature and is supplied in easy to use, self dosing bottles. Safe for all fish, corals, invertebrates and macroalgae, as well as the facultative anaerobes and nitrifying bacteria essential to biologic filtration."
I have a bottle of stop parasite, but won't be using it - it just smells/looks like a bottle of hot sauce

If you have not had an outbreak in 30-40 days your probably safe. Temp, etc play a big role in lifespan.

Hefner,
I was nearly excommunicated from SWF Forums for my very first thread "An easy way to cure Ich - My adventure with ich attack." I've learned it's taboo to talk about any ich treatments aside from hyposalinity. Have you had the same issues with others about this?
Also, when you add kick-ich, do you do it regularly as a preventative measure? How effective of a means of curing ich is it? I'm curious because I was STRONGLY SUGGESTED into getting a QT with hypo treatment for all of my fish due to an outbreak in my hippo. Here's the link in case you're interested...

Also another interesting thread I posted a few days ago... kinda funny

Interesting threads. Sorry for your frustration and the little understanding from the others at times. We've all made mistakes... as you see I have in the above posts.. that's inevitable in this hobby - and unfortunately most LFS's don't care much about the fish or hobbyists - they'll sell whatever they can most of the time.
And yeah, most people recommend only hypo. Any other ideas might get shot down quickly, but my reasoning is that if something else ends up being found that works - then we'll all be sooo happy! Hypo definitely is the tried/true, but it's definitely stressful on the fish too. I see you're in the midst of it - good luck!
Regarding the Kick Ich, I'm interested in the product, but don't know really anything about it. Anybody got some more info on why/how it works?

Well.... Are all bets in????
If so.. the decision is...
Let the HYPO begin!!!!!!!

And yeah, it was the blue tang... she is swimming around and all... just fine... but has about 8 dots.
Oh well. Can't say I'm surprised. Consider the calendar marked..

Good luck with Hypo and watch your pH levels. Are you going to hypo in the DT or QT?

I'm doing hypo on the DT. Its just easier on the fish. So all the rock is in a huge tub except for a couple pieces for the fish to swim around (I left the large base rock pieces that are touching the bottom of the tank). I add the pH 8.2 to the non-saline water as I add it, keeping the pH 8.2. It's at 1.016 and it'll be at 1.009 tomorrow.
The blue tang is already looking much better. My order of vitamins also came in yesterday, so now I'm soaking the food in selcon, vitachem, and zoe.
I'm sure hoping that I don't lose the blue. And in the meantime, I'm setting up a larger QT...

How is the eel doing Hef-? Also, do you have glass tops on your tank-?

the eel seems to be doing fine. i was a bit worried about doing hypo with the eel. but according to others on swf.com - hypo is actually the preferred method for eels because of their skin.
And yeah, I have the glass tops. I open it daily to help 02 exchange. I also have a large proclear wet/dry which provides a signficant amount of open 02 access. The biggest different b/w this and my 55 reef (which is open) is that the glass tops keep in the heat and thus the tank stays about 81.5 to 83.5 vs my reef at 80.

Well, it's been at 1.009 for a couple days. The blue tang still has some dots, but seems to be less. It's swimming around just fine though - not breathing heavily or acting distressed. The zebra eel had me worried at first. It isn't coming out much. It's still eating, but less. I haven't noted any spots on it. I think it just got a bit spooked about removing all the rock. Otherwise everything is going great! I sure hope all ends well.
