2 quills- you alright over there, buddy? seems like you're spazzin' out a little. Haha
I was. My story is that I was in a bad coverage zone and when I was trying to leave a simple reply when everything froze up. So I didn't know if the reply actually posted and thus hit the button repeatedly like a crazed maniac. Much to my surprise I had an epiphany and came to the realization that I had reached the holy grail of technological glitches when I wound up with a quadruple post all saying the same damn thing.
I just don't know if the public will believe it or not.

hahaha good to know. I thought you were getting a little stroky on us :)
OH. MY. GOD. So- remember how I was thinking that I had a mouse under the shower pan??? Well- this is not the case. I started google searching what the droppings looks like. I also had these little brown "pod" type things.
Turns out, those "pods" are roach eggs. THIS IS SO DISGUSTING. I am FREAKING OUT!!! I would rather have the mouse. According to what I have seen online, I could have an infestation of roaches. Which is weird. I have never ever seen a roach in my house. I move furniture all the time, and I just moved my whole fridge from the wall and cleaned. No sign there. I can't believe that there are roaches somewhere around here. I want to barf. I have no idea what to do.
We take out the trash, we don't leave food out. I clean all the time. My house never has food stuffs/ garbage anywhere. How did I get roaches? I never even see them outside!
Worst of all, I don't know what to do?!?!?! I am gonna go 2quills crazy here and freak out of my skin. I am about to call the "Bug and weed mart". It's this great pest place that sells the commercial grade stuff. It's so strong, that it'll kill small children if it's not mixed right.
I don't know what to do... Anyone have experience with this? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

Poison, and lots of it. But use in accordance with regulation. :) Seal up your house like fort knox and put some bleach down your drains.
Hey, this reminds me...
Does anybody here remember Joe's Apartment from back in the day with the singing/talking cockroaches? Where he moves into his grandmas old apartment but the roaches are so bad that every time he brings a girl over they ruin it for him? But he can never get rid of them?
I know, I know...it's not funny. Can't help it.

Well-
We usually get our own chemicals from the "bug and weed mart". It's a place here is AZ (could be national) that sells specialized stuff to kill/trap/repel whatever you have. I called and talked to them.
We have inside stuff and outside stuff and they said it's great for roaches. I have been lax on spraying. This stuff needs to go down outside every 60 days, inside stuff every 4 months. He also told me about some dust? I forget what's in it, but he says that he will take the wall plates off in the house or every time he is doing a repair or sheet rock is open, he "dusts" the walls inside and seals them up. I guess when they moved in they had roaches. But he says with doing this, it went away.
I freaked a little- I guess I had this thing going on under the shower pan. But he said if I had an infestation, I would know it.
They asked if we have a lot of spider webs or if we see spiders- We do not. (I guess spiders eat them?)
They asked me to look in key area. I have no signs. Truth be told, I have NEVER seen a roach or a shedding or anything in this house. Not until this whole shower thing.
The dogs and cat LOVE bugs. I think they would find it before I ever would. They all like to play with crickets and flys... they're crazy.
I am gonna go get some dust and put that down inside the studs and things before I close up the shower area. He said inside a contained area, it'll last 2-3 years. It's also a repellant.
Between granules, spraying and this dust, I think I'll be okay.
I have never seen a roach inside this place. Only 2 outside in 3 years.

Oh es, I remember living in Phoenix when I was a kid. Those Black widows were all over the place!
The bugs out there are insane!
I would walk to school and see scorps crawling across the street. Rattlers cruisin on the side walk. Lol.......
I like snakes.....

Yep. I don't think I've come across a property yet that hasn't seen a roach or two to some degree. And some neighborhoods could just be plagued with it a little more than others. Doesn't necessarily mean you are dirty people. They will crawl up out of the drains at night just because.
I've had pest guys recommend the bleach. Your drains (especially the kitchen sink) get all kinds of nasty build up after a while the roaches and gnats love it. But sometimes they are just in the sewers so it's a never ending maintenance routine to keep em at bay.
Things you could do to help is like pull the stoppers on your bathroom sinks when you're not using them, the bleach thing, and even make sure to run water down all of your drains once in a while. If the bathroom shower and tub has been down for a while then those lines have had no water in them. Every plumbing location in your house should have a P-Trap designed into it. Toilets have one built in to the bowl, sinks have them under the sink, shower and tubs have them under ground or in the floor. If they aren't used regularly the water in those traps evaporates. That allows methane gas to seep into your home and makes it easy for creepy crawlies to come on in.

Thats what we did when I lived in Houston. Every drain got plugged and after a bleach pour. That and kept the house clean.

Now on to the fun part!
The new tank!
Here are some photos of the plumbing and such.
Decided to run with two sumps. The one on the right has the bio balls and has a filter tray where I can run flat media. The other side of this sump is shallow. I will be running a refugium here. It's not huge but should be enough to run a sand bed, had some rubble, even macro if I like. The sump on the left will house most equipment. I have a skimmer, forgot to take a picture but I got it used from my equipment guy. I love him.
We got our two all glass sumps, all the bioballs, a 150 HQI MH light and ballast, a little giant 4 return pump, I think he said the skimmer was an ASM-G 2? 3? (I dunno you guys can tell me) for about 400.00 give or take. I traded him that stupid LED light, my cardiff tank, and my kinda busted MP10. And I still have some credit left over. I hope everyone has a guy in their area like my guy. It's nice to have somewhere to take equipment and it makes the hobby affordable for a lot of people. :)

Running one external pump (little giant 4) and then one submersible pump. They one sump was already drilled for external and I figured it would help with some heat savings.
I like the stand. It's more "Cabinet" looking, rather than "fish tank" looking. We are having a canopy made that will be about 18" tall. Doors will be all the way across the front, a hole there on the left side for an integrated fan. It'll be about 4-6 weeks they say but it'll be fully customized to fit our light rail. :) Excited about the way this one is shaping up.
Planning on trying to run with the 150 on the rail, along with supplemental t5, maybe HO t5. We shall see. Was thinking supplemental LED but nah. If the 150 is not enough (it probably isn't), We are thinking we might get spendy. The BF wants a geissman MH box pendant. I dk about all of that but they are nice looking :)

Keifers- I have never seen a snake. Coyotes, sure but no snakes.
And yes, widows are everywhere. Our neighborhood has "lakes", so they bugs love the water. Luckily, we are 2 streets away from the lakes, so our house is not covered like other people's.
A buddy of ours helped us move the 200ish cube we used to have. We bought it on CL and the stand and tank were sitting in a home that was being moved out off. We loaded the thing up, got it home, were moving it in and in the process, my buddy apparently caught a widow in the hand. None of us knew. He left and went out for drinks.
Called me the next day and told me how he had ended up in the hospital. I look under the tank and sure enough, there is a widow in the corner in her web. Nice sized gal... zapped that sucker with some Terro and that was that.
PS- Love terro. I have a scorpion light and I hunt them. One shot of this stuff and they die within 2 minutes. Love it. Never see scorps in the house or really on my property. Probably because I don't have bug issues.
Quills- Thanks for saying we aren't dirty. Not gonna lie, I was horribly embarrassed to find that I had roaches. I'm not the neatest but I don't leave food out or not clean. Sometimes there are things out or it's unorganized but I vacuum and disinfect and clean like no one's business. I don't want to live in a dirty home. I am still mortified about this issue.
I have already started closing the drains. Good habit to have. I already clean the kitchen sink regulary because it's smells. I use bleach on the rubber thing above the disposal and I use those foaming pouches for disposals or the little plink jobs. Like those, They keep it smelling nice. :) I try to clean mine bi-weekly. The kitchen is in our "main" area and I don't want things getting smelly.

Understandable. That's pretty much how we are here. I'm more apt to leave a glass or two laying around from time to time but the wife goes after trash and bad smells with a vengeance and she's discovered those little "plink jobs" as well. But in this area down here we will still see one every once in a while.
We've got every nasty vermon known to man down here I think. I've been surprised by rattle snakes, copper heads, widows, recluse spiders...you name it. I have to be especially careful in some of these houses when crawling around the addicts, opening up walls or under a house that's on pier and beam.
I've even seen houses infested with german roaches that get smuggled in here inside of boxes or bags of food grain products. And those suckers are truly hard to kill. We just did a house a few months back (worst house ever) that we must have taken a full 55g trash bag of roaches out of. Not the mention a plethora of rats. The people were dope heads. Wasn't a square foot in that house that wasn't covered with roach or rat crap. Even in every single cabinet and drawer. Yuck!!! We had to gut that house. Bad thing was is that it was in a decent neighborhood, too.
On lighter note: The tank looks great, would love to see some more details under the stand though.

FTS setup
right side with drip tray for media/bioballs/ baffle and then "refugium area" where I will basically just be running a sand bed. The jury is still out as to whether I will be running regular sand or the FIJI gold mud. I have some in the 65 and I have had great luck. I know people were talking about disliking it or having issues. I hate to bring this up again, but what do you guys think about the FIJI gold mud in here? I could go either way...
WWWAAATTTEEERRR!!!!!
Left side- The skimmer will be here on this end, forgot to take a picture of the skimmer, again. I will. Promise. I will likely have the heater and other equipment here as well. I'm sure I will run Chemi-pure and elite but As to where is a mystery at this point. I have room... I guess It'll just be somewhere in here, either side.
This is the refugium area. It's not big but It's something. Again. large enough to tumble some Chaeto (if I can ever get to the point of sustaining it...)
Some valves and junk, on the left side.
My very confused Shiba inu, hammond. The other two (cat and black dog) are used to this drill. He is only 2 and has never been through the whole tank setup process. My other dog, elise, is annoyed and refuses to acknowledge this is happening. She's grumpy lol.

Looks like a good set up. I take it there will be 2 return pumps? Haven't used the mud myself. Only negative I've really heard about it is that it's more maintenance because the nutrients within it that feed the macro get depleted and need to be replenished with new mud now and then.
