Help with a rebuild!

When I first started in this hobby that was the only fish I wanted. I wanted a Picasso Trigger and I have just one thing to say about people getting pissy about keeping a picasso in MY reef. It's mine. I will take care of any issues if they arise. Once he gets to big for the tank he will be moved to the 125. I do understand why they get upset, as I would too, but this is a hobby, nothing more to me. This is the first time I kept a picasso yes.
Am I pushing the envelope? Yes, maybe a little. I have no hermits or snails so there is really nothing in there for him to kill. Right now he's a little pissy because I moved a few things around and he doesn't like it one bit.
It's not like I put a Tang in my 56 gallon or a giant angel. Lol...

Or like putting a PBT in a 110. ;-)
I would go with Kiefers explanation as long as we're talking about seasoned hobbyists (which you are). I would not call this an excuse to let a noob go crazy with an unsafe stock list. Triggers may chomp on coral a bit, but they're really looking for snails, crabs, worms, etc. If you don't mind replenishing your cuc, or potentially having to re-aquascape every few days, then maybe that fish might be right for you.

I wouldn't do a water change on the 150.......Personally a NO on the Humu.....Picasso is another no as far as a reef tank.....That doesn't come from book reading.....It will be a matter of time....As far as reef safe triggers there are a few, but neither of the 2 mentioned are.....CrossHatch, Blue throat, and Niger can be hit or miss.....I think there is another, but can't recall it.....

Xanthichthys ringens, Sargassum Triggerfish. Actually, one of the prettiest triggers there is in my opinion.

hmm... You guys are giving me a lot to think about... quite a lot, indeed.
Well, at this point, I don't have a trigger. But I DO have 2 new additions in the 60 that will make their way to the new 150... and no one has asked what they are. That's weird.
They are doing fine, thank you very much. Both are very active, seem to be eating well and are getting alone with all of the 60 critters.
Lets hope they can last in there for a week or so while the 150 is doing it's thing...
I need to get a piece of air tubing for my skimmer in the 150. I finally got around to hooking it up and realized that there was no air, so it doesn't work. hehe Oops.
Other than that... nothing much going on around here. Did a water change on the 60 last night. Detail cleaned the sump, cleaning and changing a batch of filter socks... same old, same old.

Well, if you truely want a trigger I would reccommend a Sargassum. They are beautiful and is safer than the Picasso. Not to mention, I don't think alot of folks have one.

I will look into that Kiefers! It is a little plain looking but honestly, Sometimes the fish is not about the look, so much as it is about the personality and the movement of the fish (for me). I know all of us would love to keep only the most vibrant and crazy looking ones of the bunch, but a lot of those types us fish only add color to the tank, not a lot of varied activity, movement/speed to the over all look.
I, personally, enjoy aquariums that have a vast variety. I like to keep a LOT of perchers just because of there habits and their "hidden" qualities. (They are often hidden themselves.) A few fish that are "speedy" in their movements to really add activity to the tank over all, and then some just for a punch of color/rarity.
IMO, I think this is what a lot of tanks are missing and it sort of looses some of it's "wow" factor because of this.
As far as the 150 goes, there is not a lot of "wow" factor going on ATM. hehe.
I am testing the water again.
Just got the skimmer working the other night. Works great, now that it has an air line.
Took the K4 out of the 60 and placed it in the 150.
I put the smaller SUNSUN in to replace it and HOLY FLOW. The fish seem to be enjoying it, but the anemones not so much. I think they will adjust but I am watching them closely. I am getting quite a bit of movement from them now. I have to take an inventory of them in the AM/PM. They are all moving to different spots in the rock every 12 hours!
I think once the critters from the 60 are all in the 150, I will be putting the other SUNSUN into the 150 also.
I have been thinking about what to do with the 60 once the small reef is out of there... Another reef? A species only tank... My thought have gone towards the species only tank. I was thinking sea horse but my gut keeps telling me that I am not nearly seasoned enough for those guys.
So then I thought- I have always loved the Orbicular burr fish, vary similar to the common puffer. I am not sure if this tank would do well with one of those. I have only ever kept one and he did not move around too much. He mostly just stayed in his little corner and hung out. He never bothered corals, mostly just hung about looking adorable.
I also was thinking fuzzy dwarf lion. Those guys are also really fun. I miss the lions I have kept in the past, just not so sure yet what I want to do...
And then I have had this idea in the last 24 hours... what about some Toby's... They are not reef safe but they are incredibly colorful, from what I understand they can only be kept solo. I was thinking about about a tank with fish that I always want to keep but that are not reef safe... keeping them in a tank with like some junk leathers and some mushrooms that they won't care about...
I don't know...
Any ideas for me guys? Anything you like... would like to see, I am at a loss of what to put in this awesome tank. I just know that when it is empty, I want to try to keep it fish free for about 30-40 days to get rid of the ich that may be in there. I don't have ich issues but It's just a thought.

Almost forgot!
I was at the LFS the other day, getting the new additions (that no one has asked out yet), and I spied this.
I had to take a video because I have never seen one before and I thought it was the coolest thing ever! This type of stuff is why I love saltwater. It's a chance to explore the ocean and all the wonders of it in our own "backyards".
Okay- edit- I can't post the video right now, but here is a still of him!

Also, a really cool stonefish that was also at the LFS... again, species tank??

Omgish, I can't beleive that you guys think he's ugly! I actually think he's kinda cute...
Maybe he is just misunderstood.
Kiefers- what is that fish? I'm sure it's a toby but what is it exactly?
Here is another thought- If I go with one of those guys, I seem to remember that they are not reef safe and they are aggressive? I have only had 1 experience with them. I bought a yellow and light blue one. It was gorgeous and they told me it was reef safe. I was inexperienced but super excited. I put it in my tank and it immediately started attacking every fish I had. I quickly scooped him up and he spent the night in the sump.
So, I guess the thought is... If I put one of these guys in a softies tank, What can I keep him with that he won't attack and kill?
I will take some pictures of the new guys and post them shortly.
:)

Well, the fish is going into the 125. The wife impulsed buy this critter and I am copperig it due to it having ich at the moment. He looks like he has a bite out of his side so I added an antibiotic medicine to the tank first then as it cleared up, did a water change and then added copper.
The wifey is aware of the pissiness of this animal but she is hoping for the same luck I have with my picasso, which by the way has been seen bringing food to my mandrin (yesterday), and then the mandrin eats it or carries it around to show off before eating it. To funny.
My fish are so retarded!

So you don't know what it is?
I am interested to know what the temperament turns out to be. Keep us posted!
