Hi, how is the community here on this board?

I have longtime been a member of reefcentral.
I posted a thread there and a mod ended up locking my thread because other people started arguing.
When I sent him a PM questioning his laziness, rudeness, and asked why he couldn't have just removed the posts where people argued, instead of locking my thread. I also told him that if he wanted members to stay at reefcentral, he should not be so damn rude.
About 15 minutes later, I end up with a PERMA BAN. I can't believe I get perma banned on a forum because I criticize a moderator.
Are the mods here actually reasonable? Like I told him, rudeness makes people leave. Now I'm here instead.

The mods here are very reasonable as long as you are respectful and don't get into name calling.

Good. I never got into any name calling or did anything wrong. I just questioned his skills as a moderator. I even run two vBulletin boards of my own. I would NEVER treat the members of my forum in the fashion that this mod treated me.

Definitely very reasonable! Right everyone?
(I Will Ban all who disagree with this statement.)

Some times we do have to completely close down a topic just because it gets crazy out of hand, but a member can always speak to us to see how to address the issue, such as starting another topic, etc.
Hope you enjoy your time here at SWF.com

I havn't seen any problems with moderators since I've been a member here and i find the quality of help by th senior members to be of a much higher level than Reef Central. I go there to see whats going on, but I always come here if i have an emergency or something that requires a higher level of help.

Actually, I DID create a second topic asking why the first one was locked, since the mod didn't bother to tell me why. When he locked the original topic, the only thing he said was that the topic was being "derailed" and that all of my threads end up being locked. Out of hundreds of threads posted there, I could only find TWO that had been locked.
I own and run two vBulletin forums. I'd never treat or allow any of the forum staff to treat members in that fashion. If a mod cannot take criticism in a PRIVATE MESSAGE, then he shouldn't be a mod.

Good to know.

Okay everyone on this thread is banned because I had a bad day at work.

I've never heard of someone getting banned because they criticized the actions of one of us. I can tell you with certainty that this not how any of us operate. There is a big difference between flaming/name calling and voicing a concern professionally, and none of the moderators believe they are perfect.
Threads that devolve into name calling and flaming are usually locked with a quickness, especially if the name calling is intertwined with the conversation to the point that trying to clean up the garbage information would hack the continuity of the thread to bits. When cleanup is possible, that's what's done. We strive to maintain a board that values a family friendly atmosphere, that values knowledge and respect. As such, new members are welcome, I hope you choose to stick around, whether it's to help or be helped.

There was no name calling in the thread. It was just a few people debating whether or not I should be driving with my narcolepsy condition. The mod basically said it was my fault that those people hijacked my thread. My criticism wasn't even public, but in a PM.
Amazing.

Very fair mods here. We can get spirited as long as there are no personal attacks. I love the left and right perspective that is allowed to be discussed. Bush was an idiot, Obama is a socialist. It's fun. Look up the recent Sarah Palin thread. It's a classic and should be stickied.

I just posted a thread about how I have the worst luck in the world. I'd appreciate comments.
This post right here about reef central is just another example of bad luck. I PM a mod and get a perma ban. heh

The off topic forum other there aka OT is pretty stale because of the heavy handed moderation. Some of it just has to be but some is BS. They even banned hunting picture threads because a few of the regulars are offended by such but can't resist the temptation to open a thread titled "Hunting Pictures"

The off topic thread on SWF.com is the best.
I crack everytime I read the regulars bantering back and fourth. It really is fun and for the most part innocent. some times it get crazy but not very oftin to the point of being banned. Most of the people here know each other well enough to joke around.
Welcome to a great forum.

You can get banned on -- for wearing the wrong color shirt, LOL
I'm so over that forum.
I'm a mod on another forum and spend far more time on this site. Mods here are great and everyone (except a select few) are very respectful to one another. This board is by far my favorite.
