Costly game....we lost Jeter for the year   :(
Yeah, that sucks. Jeter is a class guy and no one wants to see him go down...

So how much did Detroit's owner pay for that obviously missed call at second? Pretty much won Game 2 for them.

Definitely a horrible call. But the score was 1-0 at the time and went to 3-0 after the bad call. The Yanks didn't score and barely threatened thereafter, though. If the 8th inning ended at 1-0, it wouldn't have helped the Yankees bats...

EXACTLY what I have been saying...The call sucked...BUT when you can't even score 1 lousy run....it doesn't matter

Yeah, those poor, poor Yankees got robbed. Kinda like the '96 ALCS where little Jeffery Maier robbed the O's of a HR at Yankee Stadium... or in '98 When Tino Martinez took strike three (that wasn't called) then he hit a grand slam later in the at bat... Or maybe the '99 ALCS where Chucky Knoblauch had the phantom tag called out... Or a few years back when Joe Mauer hit a double down the line (that kicked up chalk) and they called it foul...
It's called baseball karma

I sorta agree, but with baseball any momentum can change the outcome of a game. If the ump would've made the right call, that would've ended the 8th with the score 1-0 instead of continuing the inning where Detroit expanded it to 3-0. Mentalwise, professional baseball players select pitches differently when it comes to how many runs down they are. Do I swing at certain pitches to try and hit a home run to cut the 3 run lead down? If it was only a 1 run lead, all you have to do is get one guy on, and you have a good chance to tie the game up. Three runs? Again, different strategies have to be used. The Yankees just lost one of their better hitters in Jeter, now they're three runs down instead of one with just two at-bats left. The players were also probably frustrated knowing it was a bad call, and their coach just got kicked out because he wouldn't let it go. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. But you have to wonder if the game would've gone different if the call would've been made.

There's no doubt that the tigers have gotten huge breaks. Don't forget about the play in game 1 where ibanez was called out at first... that was also a bad call and would have scored an early run. Not to mention Jeter, and our closer imploding but the pen somehow getting it done without a real closer.
But then again... watch a-rod's at bats. He strikes out and the catcher drops the ball... he doesn't even try to run to first. New York checked out of game 2 and the tigers haven't played great yet. If Verlander does what he should tomorrow night, the yanks may not even show up to game 4.
On another note, in 2006 the tigers beat Oakland and New York in the playoffs before losing to St. Louis in the world series. Not liking that dynamic. Go Giants!!

Don't get me wrong. I'm a Tiger's fan all the way. The Yankees get everything they deserve with A-Rod. I don't care what hype they've given the guy, or even how good his stats are. It's inconceivable that ANY athlete is worth the money they pay that guy. Stupid is, as stupid does...

Tonight is the key to the series. If Detroit gets a win tonight then, IMHO, the series is over. But if the Yankees can find a way to beat Verlander, then they have Sebathia going tomorrow, then we are probably looking at a 2-2 series...

In short... the winner tonight probably wins the series.

As always, I am late to the party.
Go Tigers!!!
Right now the Tigers have had some very nice breaks, and the Yankee's have not hit at all. But the Tiger's starting pitching is unreal right now. Valverde is the only pitcher to have any earned runs in the last 4 games. I would not feel very good about my chances if I were a Yankee fan. That being said, I think that their (NY) bats will not be held in check for much longer. To much talent for them to hit like this for this long. I just hope that the Tigers can mash and get game 3.
If they go up 3-0. I don't think the series goes back to NY.
Super happy to be a Detroit fan right now. This team has played very mediocre this year, and they were lucky to make it to the postseason. But starting pitching and some hitting can take you far. This might be their year.
Oh, bad calls go around and tend to even out. But I think that baseball will need to expand their replay system. Get with the program you old farts.

How about kids nowadays? You want a list of the cities where the idiots have rioted after their teams have won a sports championship? LA, Chicago, Boston, Denver , DETROIT 1984 and 1990

Damn kids... Detroit 1990 was hardly a riot, maybe a few couches burned or cars tipped over.
LA in the 90's... now that was a real riot. Was it after the OJ verdict or after Rodney King? Can't remember...
