My hubby's car asks for premium. He backed off to mid grade and then when tank is about to 1/4 tank he puts in regular. Then when regular tank is about 1/2 full, he puts in some plus. He has had ZERO problems. Next week he is going to try all regular and lets see what happens.

Watch your actual mileage/economy. Many cars that require premium do so to eliminate detonation in high compression engines. If the engine controller detects detonation via a knock sensor the computer will retard ignition timing to compensate, resulting in lower MPG. You may be defeating the purpose.
Our Toyota doesn't require premium, but it pings while driving up hill at part throttle if we put in the cheap stuff. Detonation/spark knock/ping will damage an engine if allowed to continue.
