Ok i follwed your instructions and when i was took the 4" shroom out of the water it shrunk to the size of a dime. I could barely see what i was doing let alone hold the shroom( for some reason with a sharp exacto this was very hard to cut.) without cutting my fingers off.
After i did cut it i placed it into a condiment container with a lid and netting and placed it into a low flow area of tank with good lighting. When i looked into the cup the shrooms were upside down. Even when i place them on the right side and slowly place the cup on the spot they flip upside down. When i did get them placed right they wont open./ im kinda worried i just killed one of my shrooms.
Can you give any advice on how i may be doing this wrong or how i can do it better?
If its more convenient to you email me at popnfrresh at gmail.com

they will shrink but it should not be super fats. just be ready to go when you remove the shroom. it take a min for them to shrink up. and no they wont open up right way. it will take a while. after all you did just cut them in half lol.
ok, so I know that shrooms spread and split on their own. Is it better to just let them split naturally and spread all over your rock or is it better to frag them?
I am going to give you my experience with accidentally making my mushrooms split.
I have a dragon goby that makes a mess at times on my corals, so I use a turkey baster to clean things. I have found that blowing water across the mushrooms has caused them to create more. I have 2 seperate areas with mushrooms with the same results.
Have others had success with this technique? I found this out by accident
Just thought others might find this interesting.

i also had a mishap, bought a decoration crab a while ago , cut a mushroom pretty badley , took some time , but now i have 2, one a lot bigger then the other , but still 2 ,
