Agreed. Howard reiterates EVERY DAY that this isn't just about him.

It sounds like you don't. That doesn't really matter though, because this isn't about syndication. Though if you knew more about it, you'd see how little this really affects Howard Stern. He was losing those syndication deals with Clear Channel sooner or later. Turned out sooner rather than later in this case.
But you want to go ahead and believe the rhetoric of this guy, have at it. Me, I'll go to work again tomorrow wondering if something I MIGHT say will get me canned.
I've already been forced to use a delay system. I've already been chewed out for comments I've made on the radio. Half hour and 45 minute meetings over content with the general manager. I don't even use sexually explicit language on my show. But it doesn't matter. I've been told "there are no sacred cows here".
It's had a chilling effect already.
And as for the vast right wing conspiracy: I'm a conservative FEMALE radio broadcaster with good ratings and an uncontentious (mostly) relationship with management. The guy who chewed me out? Big time Bush supporter like me. So much for politics influencing job security.
But hey, it's all about Howard Stern. Bite me, it is.
Getting this yet? ANYONE?

Your very right in all your statements.. and its not about HS.. ( I have my own opinion of Howard, but im not going to share it)
To me its about freedom of speech... and I feel our rights are being violated and regulated by a gov thats using this situation purely for a political tactic to mask or outweight other more important issues to gain favor in an upcoming election.. Nothing more .. nothing less.. and it just plain sucks..

I've been listening to Howard for over 20 years I think he's great. What I think is obsceen is the religous zealots who prey on the elderly.

I am so sick of politicians and federal courts taking out Marilyn Manson, 2 live crew, Howard Stern, whatever. Your kids are growing up the way you let them. Be parents, but do not take what other members of your society like away.

The problem is that are kids are surrounded by all of the junk that degrades society 24 hours a day everywhere. You can be the greatsest parent in the world but unless you lock your kids in your house with no Radio or TV and never leave your house your kids will be exposed to all this junk the second that you leave your house.
People can believe whatever they want but people like Howard stern and Tom Lycos and all the others do nothing for the American family and our children and since they do it where any curious kid can turn on the radio they are resonsable for what they say and who may hear it. Our children are the whole nations resonsability because they are our future. The FCC is finally doing it's job by regulating and if you want to call it censoring that is great to. Freedom of speech is one thing but degregation of society is another. Do you realize that kids are like sponges and it is the nations job to help them soak up knowledge that will help them succeed, and not knowledge that makes Girls feel like they are Hoars and guys feel like capping Somebody is cool.
I think that it is great that society finally realizes that we screwed up by letting Howard babysit are kids and it's about time that society took it's youth back and kicked the Radio scum where they belong. I also highly doubt that many resonsable parents really are fighting for Howard Sterns cause. It is the single people who don't have kids and can't unstertand parenthood and irresponsable parents who care more about their own entertainment then their kids wellfare that are throwing fit about some loosers.

What a crock. If its not Howard it'll be someone or something else. Face it. Society has never been squeaky clean nor will it ever be. Quite frankly it would be really boring if it was. I'm a parent of a 5 soon-to-be 5 year-old and I'll tell you first hand that it can be difficult to protect young ones from "indecency"... but it can be done. It's not always easy but then again what is? It just bothers me that people WANT to be told what they can and can't view or listen to. I'd prefer to make that decision for myself, thank you. I'm not particularly a fan of Howard but I can appreciate that people that want to listen to him can, while I scroll past his station, if I choose to do so. Society in the US is ridiculous right now... everyone thinks they know what's good for everyone else.... it's sad. Anyway, for those that wish Howard was booted, try not listening. It does wonders... its amazing how people that don't follow a show can hate it so much....

the solution is not to hide bad things from children. by doing that then you're just decieving them of how the real world is. then when they grow up they'll be in such shock of having to face the b.s. of this planet that they'll get all weak and pissy.
the solution is to PROPERLY EDUCATE them on these things. compare the following scenarios and tell me what's more appropriate:
1:
"hey dad, what's cocaine?"
"it's a drug that's very bad. stay away from that crap because it'll screw up your life. people hurt eachother on it. if you ever see your friends doing this then STAY AWAY from it. trust your father on this."
2:
"hey dad, what's cocaine?"
"it's nothing. it doesn't exist."

purity your last post should be read by alot of parents... i know alot of parents who wont even give thier kids the time for secenario #2.
howard or no howard.. kids will still hear foul language, still hear sexually explicate stuff, and still know about drugs... none of that stuff will go away.. why waste millions of dollars trying to shove reality under a rug and make people live disney would lives.

see, you can get away with that stuff when yer talkin about the easter bunny or santa clause. but when it comes to certain realities in life.....well you may not wanna face em or expose loved ones to em.....but if YOU don't, then someone else WILL so you might as well teach em the lesson while they're still young and latch on to your every word.

Jlem, I understand what you're trying to say. You as a parent though have control of whether television or a radio are in your house. Many of them on the radio/tv ARE going after children. Just look at MTV, Bob Pittman the creator even outlined that in his plan for it. (1) "get their emotions going," (2) "make them forget their logic," and the result will be MTV will "own them." This is no more than a basic brainwashing technique.
"The strongest appeal you can make is emotionally. If you can get their emotions going, make them forget their logic, you've got them. At MTV, we don't shoot for the 14-year olds, we own them!
" (MTV is Rock Around the Clock, Philadelphia Inquirer, Nov. 3, 1982)

Good point. However Stern himself contradicts that. I'll see if I can find the reference of why, tonight. I won't post it unless I can find the reference so people can verify it if they question its validity.

i can see where they are going if they are trying to make an example out of HS. but you all are correct worse things are EVERYWHERE. i was watching tv one night and fell asleep when i woke up i was watching some show that had women and men in a booth the camera was only showing them from shoulders up but they were having --- and masterbating!! this was on comcast cable. i dont remember what channel but i was shocked to see this. THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN RID THE WORLD OF THINGS BAD FOR CHILDREN. THE ONLY WAY TO DO THIS IS TO RID THE WORLD OF ADULTS.

You can rid the world of exactly what happened to you, happening for your would be child. Don't have a tv in the house, or atleast don't subscribe to satelite/cable.
Odd note... some of the people who influence tv/music the most. Refuse to allow their own children to be victimized by it.

you can rid YOUR world of those things like TV but you cant rid the rest of the world. so when your kids go to school they still get all the "bad" things from the other children because they got it from their TV. so now you are home schooling...talk about sheltered.
