The base isn't getting something it needs. Light, flow, food ect.
if it keeps creaking up I'd snip off the white part and reattach it to a rock or something.

Snip of the bad part and put the good part back on the live rock,

Was the base buried in the sand bed? Or lacking light? That could be why the base is white. I had this happpen to me with an acro and I fragged it and now it is better than ever.

Did it come on that rock, or did you glue it to the rock? Is that the area that you handled?
If it is moving up quick, I would definitely cut it above the white.....then set the good part somewhere safe....and keep the other part JUST IN CASE
I had a birdsnest come back from death...LOL...and now it is growing new growth over the dead branchs

It came on the rock, I handled it by grabbing the whole thing, the branches, is that bad for it. I will watch it closely and if the white is going up fast I will cut it, thanks

I had it about mid way in the tank - I moved it up higher to see if that helps.
I meant at the LFS. Sorry about that (I should read before posting).

I don't honestly remember, all his corals were in 10" deep display tanks. I did have this coral next to some yellow polyps, would they sting the millipora.

The coral does not look like it is getting worse, I think it may have beeen the yellow polyps tto close, keep our fingers crossed.

if it is getting worse....you might want to seriously consider cutting it before you lose too much

I don't think it is meowzer, but i will definately take that into consideration, do you think the yellow polyps may have damaged it. Also you know I am new to this the acro looks really good but i can't see the extensions like on the millipora.

I really have no clue about the polyps....I too am fairly new to acros.....BUT I do know from past sps experience that sometimes the rapid tissue necrosis (??) or the other one (name is escaping me) can happen very fast, I had a monti that was 4" get 3 1/2 of "white" over night

just be careful......You might want to snip a branch just to have......I did that with one....and that was the only thing that survived

Thanks meowzer, I will look before I go to work and I will snip a piece if it gets worse, tonight I have seen no change, but I will take your word for it. Thanks and your new corals are looking great.

Meowzer - I looked at the millipora really closely - the white is still not spreading - the white is were it came in direct contact with the yellow polyps. Maybe someone else knows a bit about the yellow polyps.

That's good
I just did a bit of research and yellow polyps will sting sps corals, sps should not be placed net to yellow polyps. So I guess I should watch closely to make sure the damaged part does not spread further. I will have to keep the sps higher in the tanks - a have to get some of that coral epoxy so it does not get knocked over.

Yes - I had a rock full of yellow polyps up higher and they spread pretty quick, I wish I never put them up there, I will have to try to scrap them or cut them off. definately want to get some more sps, see how these do first, would love a purple monti cap, got a perfect spot.
