I'm In Trouble

Nobody installs those dampers on HVAC around here. Just the dampers at the vents. Choking the A/C or heat by restricting the flow causes the unit to not deliver as much air thereby redus=cing the amount it can effectivly cool. The Dampers are there to control the flow, but they need to be balanced to effectively heat/cool your home evenly. You cant do this just by feel. The duct work is probably fine, but with 3 tanks in there, your PC, and probaly window etc. you just have some stinkin heat in that room. My office is the only room that gets really warm.

LOL...No problem...if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be as worried...except what happens when it's 100 out...

That doesn't mean its going to be 100 in the house. IMO & IME: trying to lower a tank 9 degrees by cooling the room won't do it. Depending on all the factors; a drop of 10' room temp might only cool the tank 1 or 2 degrees. If you really need to lower tank temp; that's where you have to attack the problem. Many people blame the lights for heat problems; but every pump, PH, etc also produces heat. Fans blowing over the surface really do help, but not 9 degrees worth. How are your seahorses handling the temp? Eating & acting normal ? if so, why sweat it? There is often a big difference between "recommended temp" and what will work just fine. Most of the worlds tropical reefs often get close to 90 at times and 84 is very common. I remember a friend who was going nuts with this same problem and bought a $800 chiller, then found out his thermometer was about 7 degrees off.

LOL...I have 2 thermometers just in case...from what I have read though seahorses can get infections from warmer water.....
I'm going to try the window unit...if it doesn't work (it's only $100) we will save it for the shop my husband wants....
I'm out the door to go shopping now....LOL

So I should open those room vents

Home Made Chiller

[hr]
IF YOU HAVE A CANISTER FILTER LIKE I DO.....
Place your canister filter in a cooler...fill half way with water.
Take lage empty soda bottles with frozen water in them and place in the cooler works great. Have several and swap em out as they defrost.
Keep heaters plugged in so you dont go too low with temp.
It works!

I don't see how you do it mewozer. All of your threads grow like 3 pages a day. It takes a year for mine to get even 1 page.

Sorry to hear about the tempture rise, I have had the same problem. Nice to see it is finally going down.

Why do people have trouble keeping their aquariums at the right temp. Lets find out. Jk
WELLLLLL when the room temp is 86...the tank temp should be somewhere close W/O chillers
When your room temp is 74...the tank temp is close to 74
In my room it is something like that

You want to try to get a balnced flow from the registers and not restrict the flow. So I cant exactly answer this question...... Partially close those that get the most flow and open the ones that dont until you feel it is somewhat equal.

OK...thanks...I went ahead and got the window unit, and it's in and working...room temp is down 5 degrees, I know the tanks will take a little longer, and I also know I do not want a drastic (quick) change either. I made some RO/DI ice last night, and put a few cubes in the horse tank...I am trying to lower that slowly too....
MANNNNNN it's always something...

Yeppers...Always something.
I had an aqua lifter go out on my 135. This one is critical as it keeps a U tube primed between my sump and fuge. I got it temped in by using the AL on my calcium reactor. When I ordered a new one I ordered 2 more for another upcoming project. Then new MH bulbs and started ordering a few other little non essential but wanted gadgets. The 20,000k radium's are 90 a piece by the time I was done I went to check out and my cart had $600.00 worth of crap in it.
I hate it when that happens.
Stinkin' 14 dollar AL started it all. I put back about 400.00 worth of crap I really didnt need. But kept the Radium's.
It's about time to change 'em out anyways. I'm running 10,000K XM's now. Cant wait to see the 20000k radiums.

OK...My 225g got up to 84 29g up to 84 ...WORST PART...horse tank 81...I have been adding ice to cool it slowly, but does not seem to be working

ANYWAY if I put the a/c on 65 the rest of the house will freeze...and I can not afford 3 chillers...soooo tomorrow I am going to buy a small 110 window unit...I figure if I can keep this room at 75...I should be okay
Wish me luck...it's only MAY 1

Okay, I don't know anything about seahorses...do they prefer the cooler temps??? I also understand some fish are from cooler areas...If you have such a situation... my comments below just disregard.
In a reef as a rule 84 is not such a big deal. My tank gets up to 86 every once in a while and the corals nor the fish seem to mind at all. In fact they rather like it that warm. I know my Hippo Tang does.
In the natural reef the temperatures fluctuate quite a bit.
I know most people keep thier tanks at around 78 but according to my books, that is just to grant time to contol if something goes wrong. Cooler temps slow things way down. So it really isn't necessary for the fish or corals health or happiness, they like it warm.

Thanks Flower, My main concern is the horses...they are supposed to have temps of 74-78, and from what I have read...the closer to 74 the better...Apparently they can get infections and such from warm water...IDK...Mine seem ok, but I do not want to take a chance...
I am not concerned at all about my other 2 tanks, because I know the warmer water is ok for them.
But thank you anyway....

I kinda thought the seahorses were the worry. I love those critters but they scare me to death to even try and keep them. Here is lots of well wishes for their health, going your way.
