Irresponsible Aquariasts

I would like to share this picture with you all. This is a customers tank who claims "it got that way in a few days" and he would like to add a few clownfish and a turtle with some angels and some tetras. This is a fresh water tank by the way. We explained to him that if he wanted us to clean it for him, it would be better to just tear it down and start over. He said no, he was worried about killing the good bacteria in his tank. WTF..... I wanted to jump over his couch and beat his head in. Not to mention that i havent even gotten to the fact that clownfish are saltwater. Needless to say, he didnt agree to our price after we went to his home and gave an estimate and i snapped this photo before I left. By the way, he says there is fish in there swimming. I wasnt going to stick my hand in there to find out what since he didnt know what it was either. These are the people/customers inthe world that I have NO PROBLEM turning away.

it is amazing how some people want to keep fish in there homes and then expect to not have to do any work in there tanks! IMO this hobby is one of the most time consuming hobbys out there. but it may just seem that way because i have 4 tanks! anyways i would never let one of my tanks go. first of all i would be embarassed to have company over and see somthing like that. and second i didnt think that i could put a fish through that kind of torture! it would be like getting a dog and locking it in the garage for it life and NEVER CLEANING UP AFTER IT.could you imagin the look of the garage after a few years(if the dog lived that long)? it is truly sad for anything alive in that tank with the excrption of the algea.

Thats exactly my point...unfortunately there are many people in this hobby that are this person. They have no idea what they are doing and dont do any research before they start up. If people would just do a game plan of what they want, how big, and how many, if they get along, what do they require, hardiness, and not to mention equipment, along with everything else, this hobby would have less mistakes and fewer mortalities. I just read another post from another person who purchased something and then asked if would get along with what he/she already has.
research before you buy,people!!!!

Well said. If you dont know about fish then dont get one. Its just going to kill the fish and if more and more people do this prices will go up for the people who have an intention of keeping fish.

I agree this hobby involves more work then any other hobby I have ever done.
That tank is a perfect picture of Laziness!!
If you know you dont want to do the work involved to keep them up don't get a aquarium weather it be Freshwater or saltwater they both take work.

Yuk, how could they stand letting a tank get like that? I don't think they're irresponsible aquariasts but irresponsible human beings. I hope they don't have kids...

!
I agree with everyone this hobby does time your time up. In the last 2 weeks i put about 2 1/2 hours a night changing my tank to reef.
I think the high amm. from the tank is getting to his head or been sniffing the chemicals again....

Yeah well, apparently after being told that it would be 50.00 per hour probably 2 hrs too do a one time clean or 105.00 per month which would give him 1 cleaning per week for 4 weeks, he had to think about it, said it was a lot of money. WHATEVER!!!!! As you can see, his fish arent his priority...

UNBELIEVABLE!!! I started my tank is January and it still doesn't have all the fish I want. I also did four months of research before adding water to my tank. It just amazes me why people even bother if they are not going to take care of it. I commend people who do set up a tank and then realize it's to much and then turn around and sell it. Why let it sit in your house and get like this.
Makes NO sense!
jon, it's not a lot of money, what are they thinking?! I just spent 2 hours on my 125 doing a water change, cleaning, maintenance on it. Yes, it's a lot of work and if you don't have time to do it, then you have to pay someone else to do it, or get rid of the tank. It's pretty simple.

This lady told me her husband brought a 50 gallon tank. Then added sand, live rocks, coral, and fishs, all at once.

A fish would die every week.
When one fish die they replaced it with an new fish.
So they gave up.
Can you image how much money they lost?!
