Ok its three in the morning here and I cant sleep. I figured why not put a post up about my tank so here goes. About six months ago I decided I wanted to set up a different tank. After recently helping NigerBang set up his 120 I decided that was the perfect tank for me. I wanted to condense a few of my smaller seperate systems into one larger single system. The 120 has so much potential. It is perfect demensions to utilize halide lighting perfectly with most reflectors. So I was off to order a new tank.
I decided I would build my own stand and canopy. I also decided to build a frag tank to plumb into the system. I use an oceanic 24x18x 13 tank. I built both stands to match and house my autotopoff resevior under the frag tank. So here are the current specs
  • 2x250 pfo hqi pendants
  • 2x250 pheonix 14k bulbs
  • 2x39 t-5 ho actinics
  • led moonlighting
  • reef octopus 150 reciculating skimmer
  • 18w coralife uv
  • mix of koralias and maxijet mods for flow about 5500 gph
  • reefkeeper
    40g custom acrylic eurobraced sump
    300w stealth heater
    quiet one 3000 pump
    auto top off
frag tank175 watt pfo single end pendant
    aro 175 watt electronic ballast
    10k ushio bulb
    mag 5 return
The pics I have are a few months old now but I will try to get some more current ones later. I mainly like SPS but have some LPS softies also

Yes. Awesome
. I love the black finish on the stand and canopy too. I think I might do that with my 75g coming in this weekend (hopefully). Did you just use regular indoor paint?

Its actually exterior, but yes its standard latex. I used a satin finish so it didn't look too shiny.

Very nice...I love the side frag tank too....
Thanks, I have actually been contemplating taking it down. I have decided to try and leave everything be and grow out. If I do take it off line I think I will keep it around because I have the feeling I will need it again in another 6 months.

Im not sure what all you have in your tank, but how do you like the school of chromis? I was contemplating getting some for mine and I wanted some opinions on them as they are in the damsel family, but I hear theyre not bad. I also hear theyre not good as far as agression goes..very mixed reviews.

I love my chromis. They add some great movement in the tank. The only aggresion they show is toward eachother.

I read the same thing. I also hear the bgger the school, the less agression they show towards your other fish. I was going to get some of these guys or the blue reef chromis in my 75 when I get it up.
Thanks!

Yes, you definetly want them in a school. I also have a couple blue reef chromis but I like the smaller green chromis more.

The frag tank is a great idea. Sweet acans! +1 on the green chromis. They are the first fish to go in my 120g. Do you have any problems with mixing of the clowns.

Absolutly not. They are paired and sleep together in my GBT. One is a true perc and the other an B/W ocellaris. I have had alot of success pairing clowns in the past. this is my first mixed pair. Just make sure they are both not females. You will never see two fish fight like putting two female clowns together in the same tank.
