I am just curious how did it make your tank crash
My tank is 24 inches high, think he will be OK, I guess you never know.
Starry Blenny jumped from DT to sump, got stuck in filter overnight. I didn't realize it right away since the blenny always hides and *poof* cloudy water, dead fish and dead inverts :-( Lost my baby mandarin that was already converted to frozen, my last orange spotted filefish, 7 trochus snails and a cleaner shrimp
Oh that too bad

I would think egg crate would significantly reduce the amount of light to each coral being that the only light that would be in direct line with them would come from just a few of the 1/2" sqaure holes that were directly overhead, where as without a screen that some coral could get light from all of the lights the whole lenght of each tube ect ect.
i don't really know how light works especially in water, but this is what I envision when I think if putting egg crate over it.

I'm not saying that we would visibly notice it, Just the way I can wrap it around in my little head is that each individual coral would get less light seeing as how they only would get whats directly above them, nothing from the sides.

I cannot recall where I read research by Dana Riddle on the effects of egg create and light diffusion. But I do remember it was stated that there is an increase in intensity starting in the center and falling off toward the perimeter. There is also a right orientation when you place your egg create. Egg crate is actually light directional and has a thick and a thin side. You want I believe the thick side facing upwards to achieve light focusing

AWWW sorry to hear that Al
Yeah I have read that lots of the smaller fish are jumpers...
Some small fish are;many aren't. However, almost all wrasse, regardless of size are jumpers. A few years ago, I left my eggcrate off and a 7" harlequin Tusk jumped, I heard it the next room and he's still doing well.BTW, most cleaner wrasse don't live long enough in captivity to jump out. There are exceptions, but they have a terrible survival rate.
