Actually it's pretty funny because at the time that we unloaded these vans, there was an elderly lady with dimentia who was missing in my neighborhood. So there were cops and firefighters all over the sub. Anyway, when we pulled in with our large vans, it took about 15 minutes before the cops were in the driveway questioning us.

That is funny, so any updates?

I'm still struggling to get some of the chunkier pieces of coraline algae off. I'm thinking that I'll get as much off as I can in the next couple of weeks and then I will just move forward and try to get more off when the tank has water in it.
Yesterday I just got the acrylic cement for a minor repair that the tank needs. I need to do the plumbing in the house and then do the floor reinforcements.
The additional sand and rock is cured and ready to go. I still have a lot of work to do but I'm making progress... slowly but surely.
I'll post some more pics when there is substantial progress.

whoever had that before you should be smacked, it looks god aweful
Actually the guy who had it before me had a great setup... nice reef with very healthy fish. He just let the coraline grow over the back and cover the sides of the tank. Scraping this tank is very difficult and I think he just gave up after a while.

I got a good deal on this. Paid $2,300 and got the tank, stand, canopy, 4 or 5 metal halides and a couple of vho lights and about 400 lbs of livesand. The tank is about 5 years old.

Have to take a pic of someone IN the tank swimming around.
Snorkle gear and fins optional.
Here you go. I still have to get the corners and the bottom of the front. Thus far I have been working the most on the sides and the back, which were completely covered with a thick layer of coraline.
The last pic is the back... you can see through it now but these chunky pieces are not wanting to come off.

The pics are classic, that thing is huge! With a tank that big what kind of support equipment are you looking at doing? I cant even imagine having to do water changes, but with the volume your gonna have I guess you wouldnt have to do it very often.

The pvc on the top are for the 2 closed loops. I will transfer my current stock into the tank, which is a yellow stingray, black volitan lion, miniatus grouper, blond naso, purple tang, blue hippo and 2 yellow tangs. I think that I am going to give a couple of delicate species a try. Specifically, I want a blue dot ray and 2 moorish idols.
The filtration is an 85 gallon refugium and a 150 gallon sump... should be a bit over 600 gallons total.
Which blue spotted stingray species? The hardier kind or the less hardy kind?

What do you mean support equipment? Do you mean the actual stand, floor reinforcements or are you asking about the filtration, etc? I am plumbing it into my basement where it will run into an 85 gallon refugium and then into a 150 gallon rubbermaid sump. Not sure what type of skimmer I"m going to do yet.
As far as water changes, that actually should be relatively easy. I had a sink installed in the basement so I will just keep a 100 gallon reservoir halfway filled. I'll just pump about 50 gallons from the sump into the sink and replace from the reservoir.... easy. Now the tricky part will be cleaning the algae.

Probably the ribbontail. It stays a bit smaller.
