Funny that you said this... I got in my tank for the first time tonight. Realized that it's just impossible to get the algae of the bottom of the acrylic without being right there. Got to tell you that I almost passed out from the vinegar but at least now I know what it's like to be one of my fish.

I am extremely jealous of that tank! I hope the set up goes smoothly for you. I am setting up my 180 this december, and couldnt imagine the time it would take to set up a 400 gal.

Yeah, I'll post a couple more pics tonight or tomorrow. I've gotten most of the algae off. The only algae left are the 30-40 chunks that will not come off with my scraper. I will keep working on them but I am pretty much at a loss about how to get them off. Fortunately, most of the spots are on the back of the tank and not the front or sides.

i know it's acrylic, but since they are in the back can't you just use a scraper on them? coralline will eventually grow over the scratches. or, probably not even worth worrying about the patches.

I got a lot done in the last couple of nights. The algae is pretty much gone... I have to admit that I broke down and used a razor to get a few of the toughest chunks. Needed to buff out a handful of scratches anyway. I'll probably give it one more scraping session and then start buffing...

This is a bad sign... these pics represent the AFTER shots.
Take a look at the first pics posted in this thread. The algae is pretty much gone, aside from the overflows.
I may just leave the algae on the overflows anyway because you won't see them while looking at the tank.

I haven't updated this thread in a long time but I have made LOTS of progress with this ridiculous setup. I have been working on this thing for months and am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Here is an update.
I finished cleaning up the tank, buffed the scratches as well as I could and painted the back. Yesterday 4 of us brought it inside with the stand. Here's a shot...

Everything is plumbed into the basement. Here is a shot of the plumbing.

Here is a shot of the refugium.

And here's a shot of the sump with skimmer.

Finally, I reinforced the floor with these floor jacks. They are rated to withstand over 11,000 lbs each.

To finish, I will connect the plumbing to the tank and I will have to sand and stain the canopy. Then it's just a matter of making water and making sure the tank is stable before moving my livestock over. Let me know your thoughts.

And a VERY understanding wife!!
To say I'm going to pay for this would be a slight understatement.

PH Down will make the calcium come off with little effort. Soak it in it then just wipe off.
Vinegar will also work, but not as good as PD down.
