Your tank looks good! You did an amazing job on the coralline algae too! I'll be following this thread!

Thanks man... I never thought I'd get that crap off. I don't know why reefers are so impressed with coraline algae... it's nasty stuff if you ask me.
I love it on the rocks, but the moment it gets onto the glass out comes the razor blade!

Just ordered 3 GFCI outlets (2 for the display and one for the fish room), and a grounding probe. I need to get about 4 buckets of salt tomorrow. That was a quick $300.00.
It feels like I can just snap my fingers and drop $500 on this tank.

Wow! I just found this thread and wow. The tank looks completely different from the first pic. You did a great job cleaning her up. Can't wait to see some more progress. Good job!

Thank you. I just finished the plumbing. Now I just have to make water for a few days to fill this sucker, put in the sand and rock and let it stabilize for a couple weeks. During that time I can sand and re-stain the canopy. Then I make the transfer and I'm done.
It all sounds so simple...

Hey Crimzy, what did you use to buff the acrylic. Just micro mesh by hand?
Oh, and great choice going with the msx as your skimmer.

First I spent a couple of days using novus and doing it all by hand. Then I cheated and bought a buffing wheel that attached to my drill. That sped up the process quite a bit.

Here's a shot of the recently completed plumbing...

And one of the most satisfying sights I've seen on this project... WATER!!!

Lookin good crim, what are you gonna do a fowlr, fo, or reef?
It's going to be kind of a hybrid. I have fowlr now but all my fish are reef safe and the new tank has 4 metal halide lights so I'll probably add some shrooms, zoos and maybe a couple clams before this thing's done. But I'm not filling it with LR because I want room for rays so the reef stuff will be pretty limited.

Update please! Its been almost two months!
Well, the water process is continuing. Added about another 100 gallons of water to the tank. It's going to take probably another 3 days to make enough RO water to fill the system.
I also put about 150 lbs of LR into the tank. I will put the sand in tomorrow.

I know how that goes

Things are progressing slowly but surely. The sand, water and about 150 lbs of liverock are in the tank. Not much to see, though, because the water hasn't cleared up yet.
As far as the equipment goes, I am having issue after issue. Here is my list of problems that have arisen in the past week:
-return pump is extremely loud (Iwaki)
-closed loop pump isn't working at all (but the seller says he is replacing it for me)
-bulkheads in the refugium were leaking, (but this doesn't really matter because of the next issue),
-refugium is leaking
So, at this point, I am getting another Sequence 3500 that I will use for the return instead of the Iwaki. I will use separate Mag 18's to run the 2 closed loops, (picking one up tomorrow and the other I will take from my current setup when I break it down). I am looking for a new 75 - 90 gallon for the refugium and then I will probably have to get it drilled. It's been one thing after another lately.

Those mag 18's pull a lot of juice for not a lot of flow.

That sucks... I think the reason why your pump is so loud is because you have everything hooked up together with pvc(at least that's what it looks like). Try replacing a small section with a silicone or rubber hose. That should definitely quite things up a bit. Good luck and when it's all done I'm sure it's gonna look spectacular.

Thanks for the input. When I change out my return I am going to add some flexible PVC so hopefully this helps.
On another note, I just had my most discouraging, frustrating evening working on this project. I brought home the new mag 18 and began preparing to plumb it into the closed loop. The ball valves were already shut so I just figured that there would be a bit of water in the pipes that would leak out and that's it. Well, as soon as I started to cut through the PVC water started to flow as predicted. However it did not stop... It kept flowing. As it did, I started to panic. The only thing that I could guess was that my ball valve was no good and the water was going to drain down to the level of the closed loop, which is about halfway down in the tank.
So as I scramble to use almost every towel in the house, I have to run to the basement to bring up my 100 gallon rubbermaid to drain the water into. At that time the water was dripping through the basement ceiling and I'm pretty much freaking out.
I started to drain the tank and, thankfully, the water stopped after I drained about 50 or so gallons. I figured out that, though my closed loop pump didn't appear to be working, it pushed just enough water to fill the output pipes and create a reverse syphon. So then it took a while to clean up the mess.
After all that, as I was plumbing the new pump in, I spilled PVC cement on the floor. What a mess of a night!!
I wonder if Bronco, Bang Guy, CBUI or Goodwin have had these types of setbacks in their projects.
TONIGHT SUCKED!!!!!!
