Noticed the SWC skimmer. Didn't realize they sold all over, they have a shop in my town.

Quite an evening. We got the canopy on and wired all the lights. There are 3 ballasts for the 5 mh lights... one ballast is for 3 of the lights and the other two provide for one light each. Anyway, the large ballast was the first we tried to set up. Immediately upon plugging it in a small flame erupted with some sparks and then the fuse blew. The ballast looked extremely old and corroded. The other two ballasts are clearly newer and work fine. The ballast for the two VHO bulbs did not work either. Finally, the moonlights did not come with all the necessary parts so they could not be hooked up.
So, to sum up, I have 2 working mh lights and I have 3 nonworking mh lights, 2 nonworking vho lights and nonworking moonlights. I have a lot of work to do... but at least the canopy is up and there are SOME lights. Here is a pic:

Thanks for the words people. Actually the lights look pretty bright with just the two lights. I cannot imagine how bright it would be with another 1200 watts of MH on there.

I have been too obsessed with my issues tonight to get involved in the Palin thread... I'll check it out though before I call it a night.
As far as aquascaping, I will have two mountain-like structures on each side of the tank. I'll keep a lot of the bottom clear for the rays.
