Mmm so youre trying to build a refugium? Id post that on a few sites and get some opinions. The return, being gravity fed, will act like a siphon, so the pump has to equal that of gravity. See what people think, but I like the idea

Hmm, not sure mine are usually open 24/7. Are they coming out at all?

i havent seen them.............i just got them a few days ago and they havent opened yet..

Oh well that certainly stinks. I have read that sometimes they can be a bit temperamental, but hopefully they are just being grumpy and need some time. Have you tried moving them in your tank to a different spot, maybe they just don't like where you have them???
