I don't think the nutritional value of food for fish in QT is nearly as important as just getting them to eat...period. Whenever I order fish online, I order some live brine if they have it; usually gobbled right up. I'll bet you've got a keeper, have a name for it yet?

just a suggestion, is your tank bottom painted? if not, and your fish isnt eating, it may be disoriented from "flying".

tank bottom is not panted but it is on a black stand there is no refection off the bottom but that is a very good point to make

So anyone with any thoughts about starting hypo with out my RG showing signs of ick do i stress him now by lowering the salinity or wait for when and if he gets ick and hope he can handle the stress of the ick and hypo (if he survives that long that is)

This is your call, Joe. Your Qt gives you a good view of the newbie and you should be able to spot any ich signs; but, there are lots of parasites other than ich. I don't push it, but I almost use copper (Cupramine & a Seachem test kit) on fish in QT and have never had a problem that I could possibly blame on the copper.Cupramine has a broad range between "effective" and "dangerous". Also, I don't think hypo stresses a fish as much as advertised. Before LR came along, many hobbiests kept tanks at very low salinity levels because they thought it was easier on the fish; I forget the logic, but it made sense at the time. Again, you have options; but, at this point, if he's eating and looks healthy...well, you take it from there.

Steve I have had my hand on the trigger for copper this morning but I think in going to roll the dice and leave well enough alone for now Long Shot looks good so far

its not the reflection, since there really isnt one if you're from the fish's point of view.
its the "i cant swim down there so i'm going to get all screwed up in my little fish brain, get disoriented and not eat" that is the problem with not painting the bottom of the tank.

Sooo if the bottom of my tank is painted he thinks he can swim down there but because the tank bottom is not panted but on a surface that is he gets confused and will not eat ?????????
