I agree with this 100% and I think everyone would wish this was always the case. It's not, there are a lot of losers out there who have kids and many of them have multiple kids. I was blessed to have 2 great parents who were always there and still are if I need someone to talk to. Where we differ is that I think as a society it is our duty to help those kids who live in bad homes with bad parents and make sure they don't fall through the cracks. What do you think, should we just ignore these kids and turn a blind eye?
I think we deal with the root problem which is the parents. I think forcing parents to attone for their kids screwups is the way to go. Let mom and dad spend a weekend in the park picking up dog crap because Jr is constantly distrupting the class and see if Jr. shows up at school Monday with a better attitude.

I like the idea that parents be held accountable!

Lets face facts though if the kids are out of control then odds are that the parents are not much better . If little Jr is not doing what he is supposed to in the class room then mom/dad are not likely to do what they are supposed to do in the park .

El Guapo, I don't agree with that 100%. I work for the state of AZ and I see a lot of kids for whatever reason that are uncontrollable by the parents and the parents are doing what they are supposed to be and they are trying their best with what they have. How do you control a 16 yo child if they want to leave or don't want to go to school? It can be pretty difficult. Of course, they solved the school problem here with one of the stupidest laws ever passed......once you are 16 legally you don't have to go to school. What the hell is that?? That is why AZ has the highest drop out rate in the entire nation.

Even if they have to spend 8 hours sayurday and sunday looking like they are doing what they are supposed to is not going to make them real happy.
