The paper should still look white when looking through the length of your aquarium.
If it looks yellowish or greenish then your GAC isn't working. I only use GAC when the color of the water isn't clear. I place it after the overflow so that water is forced through it. I run it 48 hours and then I throw it away.

hmm, only 48 hrs... i'll have to do this.
i put it in a bag in the final bubble trap of my fuge so it 50% of my water gets the carbon, 50% gets the phosphate remover
