Marineland Pro Stealth Heater

Anyone have any bad expierence with marineland stealth pro heaters? I was sitting on the couch watching TV tonight when i heard a hissing sound coming from my tank. At first thought i was maybe my skimmer or canister filter. Unplugged everything to with no avail. I started to smell something burning and got really worried. I looked at my 300 watt heater to see bubbles coming out of it. I unplugged it quickly and pulled it out. It was scalding hot and had a crack running down the side of it. Im still watchin my fish to make sure nothing leeched into the water. Marineland is suppose to have a lifetime warranty on all their heaters but you have to have a receipt and send it off to get a replacement. I bought the heater over a year ago and dont have a receipt. Ive researched the subject and found a couple of instances that was similar to mine. I also saw where customer service was a paint in the butt. Any advice??

I had this happen too mine, I woke up checked the tank and I could feel the heat coming off of it, the tank was at 84. Had I not been home who knows what would have happened, much like yourself. Mine did't crack it was only a few months old. I have read on this forum that this happened to alot of people. Glad you caught it.

I had mine a long time...many years. I cleaned it off so I could change the heat settings..it was in the tank and just broke in half and electrocuted my tank.
I use a titanium heater now.

I seen that personally happen to a friends setup.....Either a good Titanium heater or EboJager heater would be my choices.

Uh oh, I have one in my tank. The weird thing is I rarely hear about customers complaining about them at my work. They are one of the more popular heaters.

I'm around a lot of tanks, and hear & see that with those heaters....Popular IMO because of price.....Reliablilty I mentioned earlier in my post EboJager.....Those heaters are proven, and would run circles around some of the stuff that is pushed and marketed today.....

Honestly a heater at that price I wouldn't even bother returning.....Again look at the track record of Finnex, Jali, and EboJager......The first 2 aren't your average heaters.....Won Brothers use to be the hot ticket titanium heater, and are/were junk......

And we accept returns for them. I would have to assume if this was a global issue then I would see more returns.

It would depend......sometimes it's just a matter of principle.....BUT I am not a fan of returning things,....LOL
The only thing I know about the heater you mention is what you say about them......The stealth have always been highly recommended....online and the one person I have to talk to offline....LOL....
I have no one to compare things with, except you guys

BUT I have the stealth...so until I need another heater.....that is what I am sticking with

I see returns for EVERYTHING including chewed up dog toys. I do know that they aren't the best that the market has, but I think people could do worse as well.

you dont even need to see stats to see all the horror stories about marineland heaters. in a documented thread, 4 heaters went bad in a 2 day time span from 4 different consumers. it has been suggested that these heaters shouldnt be completely submerged. eventually ill be getting rid of mine and keeping the house at 79 until i get a ebo jager as acrylic has suggested. it has thick pyrex compared to the thin plastic of marineland
ill probably keep a marineland heater just for mixing water

OMG....I never heard that about them not being fully submerged, it sure doesn't say it on the package...
Mine are all submerged
darn....now I have to rethink this......

The directions do say to submerge them and running them not fully submerged will damage them. There are heaters that are not submersible and the package says so.

FWIW:
I have a 300W Via Aqua Titanium heater and like it. It has the external control box and remote probe. I have not seen
any deviation in my tank temp for almost 7 months running.
I've read crap reviews on other Via products, but his heater seems to be very good.
