Let's say they are found guilty. A young child was gang raped by this group. I don't care to have them studied. Most of us stop short of commiting crimes because we have a conscience and empathy. Obviously, the people who commit horrific crimes such as these have mental issues, if they didn't, they would find better things to do with their time than terrorizing others.
So let's say 80 percent of people who commit crimes have issues, instead of sentences, we lock them up and study them like guinea pigs in a lab. Where is the accountability? What will stop that 20 percent from committing more crimes and then using the "mental issue" defence so that they can soften their punishment.
Life is pretty much a reward and punishment cycle. We work hard, raise our children, try to do the right thing, we can purchase things, and do things, have peace of mind, etc........ reward. We don't work, we don't have things, we can't go places, we don't raise our children, we commit crimes, etc.........punishment.
Not unlike training a puppy or our children for that matter. That is the process of life. It doesn't always work out that way as there are alot of variables but it is the basis.
What happens when you take away the punishement phase? It upsets the balance of life. Where would there be room to lock all these people up for your studies? Beings as most of them will continue to commit sexual crimes, they would have to be segregated from each other.
Then we see the post about Bush's spending. Hello............. you are wanting to spend billions to study the underbelly of society. I hate Bush. But at least he had some form of a plan. Your idea is just a huge waste of money and resources.
I am deeply disturbed that you seem to be far more preoccupied with the rights of the perpetrators than the rights of the victims.
