I think perhaps the issue here isn't that someone insulted a clam, the issue that I see is that the word used was not a required modifier. The title would have been just as clear without using that word.. Therefore, it is my opinion, that if the word is offensive to someone it should be avoided when not required.

by using the quote /quote tags. or copy what you want to quote, click the little button to the extreme right under the color pull down menu, which opens a new window, and paste what you want to quote. that doesn't work all the time though if there's "enter"'s in the dialog. that's when you need to put the quote /quote tags in.

So, we should close all threads that have any word that someone might be offended by? Words like Redneck? Christian? Hunter? I'm offended by the term Politically Correct, shall I go delete all the threads that have this?
I do understand your point but it's a case by case judgement call by a MOD. If you want a MOD to look at a thread then report it or PM a MOD and someone will look at it.

I don't feel that your original post in the thread in question, TangWhispr, was particularly mature. Calling people an "idiot" does not win the day, nor was the tone of the rest of the post positive I am sure you know what I mean.
Had you said in that thread "hey, I am offended by the word "retard" and I don't think it is appropriate" you would have my full agreement and kudos for maturity.
But the actual exchange that the unacceptable post you made spawned was definitely worth deleting. THAT is why your post AND ALL THE FOLLOWING one's pertaining to it, were deleted. There were posts from several different people and all were deleted.
As for the original word, the context in that use can go either way, and I don't tend to assume the worst in people. I can see how it can be interpreted both ways, but he is asking if the clam is "retarded" (see definition above).
This reminds me of the time in DC where some city official had to resign because he used the word "niggardly."
Thought you would like to know my logic, and my intent. I doubt it will calm you but I tried. It was not personal, it was not cowardly...heck, can you maybe even give a thought that maybe I just overlooked a problem unintentionally? We are more than happy to address concerns, please post them in the sticky in the new hobbyists and we'll address them. There are proper ways to get this done
