More proof about new yorkers

So the wife and I purchased a new fridge and stove for the home. National Grid has a rebate deal on the fridge. If you get a new fridge, and call them to get the old one, they will send you a check for $30. So we called national grid and they, DUH, have outsourced this project to another company. So calling the differnt company and I find out that I have to wait a week to get the old fridge picked up. No big deal really, just a minor inconvience in the kitchen that we cant really get out of the way. So the week has come and gone and so too have the pick up guys. Part of the agreement is to have the fridge plugged in and working when they arrive to verify that the old fridge still works. This is why we had to keep it in the kitchen as there wasnt another "out of the way" place to keep it that had an outlet next to it. No it wasnt plugged in for the whole week, i plugged it in this morning. But due to the wonderful construction of 100 years ago, there isnt a doorway wide enough for the darn thing to fit through with the doors on. I tell the pick up guys that I need 5 minutes to move some furnature and to get the doors off. They say that they can get the doors off, but cannot wait the 5 minutes to move the furnature. I said, " what? you cant wait 5 minutes?" to which they reply," no. our boss said that we are soo far behind today that if the fridge was not ready to leave the moment we arrived at your house, to leave and have the customer reschedule for another pickup." To which my blood pressure rose and I proceded to say in a very loud voice," I have had this POS fridge in my house for a week waiting for you to come and get it. you cant wait the 5 minutes for me to move the table out of the way while you are taking off the doors to actually take the fridge out? are you freaking serious?" to which they say, "yes, we are serious." SO then I asked them as politely as i could at that moment to get out of my house.
I then proceded to take the doors off, move the table and got the fridge out of my house, rather ruffly, in about a total of 10 minutes. So now that I have worked off my anger, I called national grid to complain. They were nice about it and confirmed that they outsourced the work and that there really wasnt anything they could do. I also made note that they didnt give me the company who is doing the work, their phone number so icould call them directly. As it stands now, national grid will call me back in a day or two with what they plan to do, the fridge is on the front lawn in pieces, and my blood pressure is back to normal.
Gawd, new yorkers are sooo into themselves and could care less about their fellow man. It was only 5 minutes and I would have been done before they had both doors off of the fridge.

Sounds like you just got a bad companyworkers, nothing to do with NY'ers in general.. Seriously, if you hate NY so much feel free to move somewhere else...

When I get a new appliance I usually look for the free delivery deal and then have the fridge company take the old appliance away as soon as they deliver the new one, and they supposedly donate it. Good enough deal for me. Do that with mattress too.

Seems to me that in the time that it would have taken to remove the doors from off of the fridge and take them outside to your truck (like they said they would) could have easily given you the time to move the furniture while they were doing that...

Yeah, it has nothing to do with the person being from NY, who knows, he could have grown up in Idaho. Anyway, hubby can't move because that would mean leaving me and the kids behind. He still hates NY.
Whenever you move a fridge you always take the doors off. It's an old house with narrow doorways and the only way to get it out is through the dining room. Our new fridge arrived with the doors off as well. It's also lighter that way.
I am a native NYer myself. I was born in a hospital in Schenectady and raised in a little town called Round Lake. Lived in the suburbs most of my life, til now. I do love this state, it's beauty and there are a lot of things to do here. But hubby hates the taxes and how the state is run.
Don't let him fool you, he's hated everywhere he's lived so far, not just NY! LOL So he's not really disciminatory :)

Are you going to buy my house so I can afford to buy another one somewhere else? I didnt think so. NY real estate market is such a joke. When we bought this place it apprasied for 20K more than what we paid for it. At the time of the sale, we also had the previous owner put in a new furnace and central air unit and build that into the price of the house. We had instant equity. Now that the market sucks, the economy sucks, I doubt we could get what we paid for the house out of it even with the enhancements we just did and will be doing soon.

You didn't measure the doors before they arrived?

I knew the doors would have to come off. The stipulation with the electric company taking the fridge and giving us $30 for it was to be sure it was working. How well can a fridge work with the doors off? The issue was 2 fold: we did not get a phone call giving us a time estamate of when they would arrive, and they flat out said that they could not stick around for the 5 minutes it would take to move the furnature. Turns out, I got the dinning room table and chairs moved in about 30 seconds.

I may not have liked anywhere that I have lived, but I can surely say that NY is the second worst place I have ever lived. TN being #1 on that list. The eastern side of TN is loaded with morons.

same here ok to go back to visit and eat some of the best food in the country but hell no to the snow.
Best food? really? um ... k. to each their own. The snow is what makes living here bearable for me. I like the snow, and yea, i could do with less of it. But its fun to watch come down, fun to go out and play in, and kinda fun to shovel. Hurts the back shoveling though.

Ah, yeah I hate that. Or worse, they tell you between 2 & 4 and then arrive at 1 and leave you a note that they were there but nobody was home

lol sounds like fun. Around here the electric company charges a 5 dollar fee every month. Which they say is to cover the cost of a meter reader. The thing is they dont' read my meter every month, every couple of months they estimate my bill. So I call em up, and holler at them to see if they'll remove the fee, which they don't. So I holler at em, for about 5 dollars of their time... And tell em I'm doing it too....

But i also seriously doubt you are paying what I pay per kilowatt hour too. I havent done TX but I have done plenty of states to know that NY and MA are the 2 worst utility wise states to be in. We are geting ripped off like there is no tomorrow. I used to work for a place that had to do utility schedules to find out what people paid the utility company to have power and gas.
Where i am now - $0.17 per KWH
Where i want to be - $0.07 per KWH

Not much better around .12. It is a coop. So theoretically there isn't any profit built in. But they're going nuts about wind power, so it is an artificially inflated price.
