Just because a chiller was broken doen't mean it wasn't new. So copper shouldn't be an issue. Why do you feel you need a chiller? Some fish, like sea horses do require cooler temps, but most reef fish and coral like the warmer temps.
Because w/o the chiller, my tank gets upwards of 95 degrees, easily. It is already 82 degrees due to the location of the tank in my boyfriend's office. He has so much equipment running and alot of windows, we just can't keep that room cool enough. We also have a MH light that adds alot more heat. We def. needed the chiller.
Also, I wasn't saying that the chiller wasn't new, but I was upset that I brought it back the same day and we hooked it up there and it is obviously broken and he said "Oh i think it's fine" even when other employees said that is was very obviously broken. I showed him the messed up display and everything... and he just said "well it's not my issue and you should sell it on craigs list if you don't want it." I was like wtf? So for all I know, This LFS owner was using this tank as a display, or had it up as a QT tank or something... It wouldn't surprise me if he told me it was new and sold me something that wasn't. The owner and manager are kind of shaddy, I have found out.
