So here it is. I took one picture and tried to get the Goby but he ran to take shelter in the bottom left hand corner when I took the camera out. I'm going to be working on removing a great deal of the hair algae that you can clearly see in the tank throughout the week to make it presentable to everyone since we are having family over for the holidays. Still, for a 150, it's not much to look at yet.

looks good. What are you going to be doing to try and rid your tank of the gha? Unfortunately, getting rid of it isn't a quick process.

Well, to be honest it was 10x worse than you see now. I added a blenny that took some of it and then placed two turbo snails on the big problem areas and they took care of those spots. I am pretty sure they absolutly full now and nibble on whatever they can, so I am going to remove by hand the other long areas and probably pick up one or two more turbo snails and have them finish them job and then probably place one in my refugium to clean that up as well.

AH...I just love the rock work.....are any of the rocks with the HA removeable? If so...I'd take them out and scrub them
did you ever get any turbo snails? How many astrea do you have?

Well, if it was 10x worse, it looks pretty good. I am battling a few spots of it myself. +1 of what Meowzer said, take the rocks out and scrub. Do you use RODI water or tap?

For a new tank, I think it looks fine. Are your rocks resting against the back wall? More turbos wont hurt anything.

LOL...have you never noticed that it looks lik I have no fish in any of my tank shots...all my fish are camera shy. That goby knew exactly what you had in your hand. I love your tank and the rocks look great. I got a dwarf (Lemonpeel) angelfish, it cleared my tank of all HA in a week.

I have a giant snail that would be in gha heaven in your tank! He has been the best snail ever.

No, many of the rocks are not removable since they sit on top of one another and are the structure for some of the others, so I'll just have to make do right now. Yes, I bought two of the turbos, and I have 10 astrea. Like I said, I'm thinking about picking up two more turbos and put them in there until they clean it up and then put on in my refugium.

All I use is RODI. When I went away for a weekend I had someone come by and do a top of of 10 cups of water from the tap but I don't think that would cause the huge GHA outbreak. I'm pretty sure it was the perimeters I had to start the tank and now that everything settled it I haven't seen any additional growth. Plus I think my tank was getting used to the light schedule.

Yes, some rocks do rest against the back wall. I wouldn't be able to keep them up otherwise.

I like the rocks as well. It is going to look really good once you start getting some corals.
Thanks!

I sat there from a distance for 5 minutes waiting for him to come out fora good picture. He REFUSED! He kept his head popped out of the rock structure at the bottom until I had left. THEN he decided it was clear to come out. He's working his way to getting a mean name if he keeps this up!
Just kidding of course!

Send him my way. I'll plump him up for you and send him right back! haha. What type of snail is he? I'd love to see if I can find one like that... I'm guessing a Turbo as well?

Wow! I think mine MIGHT be getting to be around that size. I'm going to have to go to my LFS and see if I can find a massive turbo there.

You may not want to hear this BUT you need to address the gha NOW, and aggressively. IMO the best way to do this is remove the rocks effected on the right side of your tank. Bleach them. Back in the tank they go. After a week take out the effected rocks on the left side and do the same. It may be a pain in the ass now but it can and will be a bigger pain if you do not rid your tank of ALL of it now

Like I had said before it was MUCH worse than this before. Why would it be a problem if I removed it by hand rather than bleaching the rock? Not to mention, if I add a few more turbos and eventually a hippo tang to clean it up why would it be a big problem if I don't bleach? Don't take this as me saying you're not right, this is just my way of learning and understanding all the effects of doing/or not doing something.

Much worse than before is like being a little pregnant, you either have GHA or you don’t. Removing by hand and using snails can never really assure you have gotten it all. Trust me I know. You need to sterilize the rocks with the algae.
FYI the method used by most if not all public aquariums to sterilize is bleach

Nice rock work. I don't know what to tell you about the GHA. I know you need to get control of it. You probably would fair better with taking the rock out now versus after you start placing corals. JMO.

I use one part bleach to 3 parts water solution. Let the rocks soak for 15 min or as long as ½ hour. Take the rocks out of the bucket you are using to bleach. Rinse with a hose or under your faucet. Continue to rinse until you no longer smell bleach on the rocks. Put the rocks back into a bucket with clean fresh water and add one of the products available at all pet stores to neutralize bleach and you are good to go
