Well they finnally spawned. But i wasnt around and well, not many eggs made it. So spawn one: failed. But its a new female so who knows what might happen.
I have always kept them seperate till I wanted them to spawn if you do it right like a small tank divider then wach will still do their part and spawn almost immediately when the seperator is dropped. That way I can control it to a time when I am there to remove the female and watch the process as it hapens.

wait a minute your FEMALE was ruff with the male and killed the male>?
sorry but i doubt that happened. the female is the one on the ruff end of the matine ritual. now when the male starts to build his nest and get ready for breeding they will stop eating so you need to get the males body fattened up because he wont eat until the eggs are hatched. the one thing I can guarantee is that the female did not kill your male betta.
NEXT THING
instead of
use the proper terms for things like breeding or mating.

She was bigger then him. Are you sure the females cant kill the males? I have read that some mean females will and can kill the males if they are larger then him. Well what ever happened im now short a male.
I have never heard of a female or seen a female go after a male its always been then other way around. I just dont see it happening.
Now what you may have gotten is a cross breed that has very short fins and was actually a male I have seen those being sold as female betas before but in general the females are smaller than the male unless the male is really really young.
Now if that was the case and the male was to young to actually breed maybe the female could have beat him up.
