Ya really don't want to kill king snakes. One of their favorite foods is Rattle snake, the venom doesn't affect them.

Yeah, I actually like roosters. Nothing,... and I mean nothing, makes a homestead more "homey" than a rooster crowing in the morning. :D Roosters can also kick the crap out of animals that get in the coop. Gotta love em'. Besides, breeding isn't that bad... at least you would always have chicken for dinner... and extra eggs if necessary.
What are you feeding your chickens?
Seth remind me when I visit to bring my shotgun......No crowing in the morning!!!!!!

I actually like it. When a rooster wakes up its bout time you do too. Lol
Not everyone likes what i like though. I enjoy the country life. The simplicity. :)

simplicity= stupid? seth you are digging a hole
Hah, wow - I guess it depends on how you read the post.
I never said simplicity is being simple minded or stupid. Afterall, I am educated and will be a Biology teacher,... and my wife is also a first grade teacher with a college degree....
What I mean by "The simplicity" is the simple life - having enough land to cultivate your own vegetables and meats - and to not have neighbors for a few acres. Living a simple life in the country, not bothering anyone and no one bothering you. Living well within your means and living a higher quality of life, in my opinion, and in a much less stressful environment.
Sorry that I didn't elaborate initially.

To be simple is no small matter.
Ya'll need to getcha one of these. There aren't too many varmin that will mess with them. Drops and egg worth about 2 dozen chicken eggs every other day.

Just, gotta watch out because they can kick the crap out of ya for real.

That's ok I wanted to shoot this thing too. All I wanted to do was get work done and that damn bird was loose and kept following me around everytime I went to the truck for a tool or a part. At one point I thought it actually wanted to peck my eye out.

WAYYYY too much egg for two people. The wife and I struggled to eat 1/4 of it. Anyone know of a good way to preserve egg? It was actually some pretty good egg. More protein than chicken eggs.
The hens I'm sure will be appreciative.

LOL, no, I don't think I'll be getting one of those. A rooster is good enough, next to a good farm dog.
Will they protect ya from hog?

If your talking about the rooster - probably not.
If your talking about a dog - it depends on the breed. Catahoula Currs are bred to be hog dogs. They hunt down and fight hogs and hold them by the necks while their owners stick the hog. :D

I think they do mostly the chasin then they use other breeds for the catchin. Either way it sounds like some hot action.

I do not believe in Hog Dogs......especially since I heard what happens to them....I consider it animal abuse :(

Eh, it's their nature - it's what they were bred for to do for thousands of years... Who would want to deny their true nature and potential? Occasionally bad stuff happens, sure... but doesn't it to anyone at some point in time?

NO...You purposely put these dogs out there to be mauled by wild hogs.....
I have seen pics of these dogs....and no one can tell me they were bred for this......that's like saying pits are bred to be in dog fights....and we know how ridiculous that it
back to the chicks
