Happitylogan,An 8 Gallon tank ? No way possible. The clownfish would be about the only fish you would possibly want. Maybe some sort of small goby or two clownfish. But that orchid dottyback i have is very territorial and claims the entire tank. He is supposed to be not that agressive but he attacks everything. Even goes after my hermit crabs and emerald crab. If you kept it by itself it would be great. They have tons of personality and its always at the front of my tank looking out at me or looking for me :) Its one of my faves.
Subielover, Ill be probably putting the micros in my Aquapod or maybe my jbj if i can find room, It just all depends what i am thinking that day. I was even thinking about maybe just buying a 3 gallon just for them :) But i dont have the time to maintain 3 different tanks really. So probably just go in the aquapod. NWDYR thank for commenting. I appreciate ya stopping by. Its so many different people on here , i apologize to you all if i havent been able to post on your threads as much as yall check out mine but i am in serious pain right now and jus not knowing what is going to happen with a car and everything else. WEll im going

In an 8gallon, I'd only do true nanofish and not even a clown. maybe... a firefish if that.
I hate to post it for the millionth time, but for an 8gallon my stock list would be as follows: yellow clown goby, 2 neon gobies, a rainford's goby (or hector's), and maybe an eviota or trimma goby, maybe a goby with pistol shrimp... I'd have to see how they all respond to each other before making sure that they'd cohabitate well and make sure it doesn't look "asian style tank" cramped. You can really pack in the true nanofish even in a small tank, many of them aren't territorial and have their own microterritories in the rocks.

they really don't occupy much of a footprint, I'm telling you. It sounds like alot, but I don't even think you'd see nitrates at the end of the week lol.
2neongobies, 1 eviota goby, 1 rainfords, 1 hectors, 1 trimma goby < Clown for bioload. The reason being, the aforementioned fish can eat pods... hell when I had an golden nosed eviota goby in a biocube 14 and didn't feed it for a month... it was still FAT. the trick with the rainfords and hectors is an established sand bed and not keeping really sterile rocks since they feed on critters in the sand and pods in the algae. the neon gobies may take small pieces of mysis shrimp, but will also dine on pods.

Agreed that those fish are small, but I have seen you recommending these pod eating fish to people with new tanks. That is a recipe for some dead fish and most likely some very discouraged aquarists. JMO but I think nanos should have very little if any fish, the allure of saltwater is the corals.

I doubt anyone I've recommended these fish too has unestablished storebought sand or rock thats been rotting in the sun for years... It doesn't take long for a critter population to boom, hell just phyto and a tigger pod culture can boom a tank pretty quick.

A fish that lives on pods is gonna need more than a tank that just got done cycling. On the front nano page alone you have recommended this same stock list at least 3 times to people with tanks less than 2 months old

a culture of tigger pods and phytoplankton can take care of that... and I'm not advocating tossing all these fish in at once, a little common sense can tell one that. I don't know anyone that sticks 8fish in a freshly cycled 10gallon all at once. I'm giving recommendations on a PERMANENT stocklist. Maybe I need to dumb it down and make sure ALL my intentions are clear from now on, I assume people a a step above a complete noob, but maybe I shouldn't.
People that want a firefish should make that their first fish or a clown their first fish since they eat mysis and will generate "waste" to feed pods and critters in the sandbed. then add the nano fish a month after NOT all at once.

Why do I need to chill out? I was responding in a friendly manner, nothing more.
As far as ridiculousness goes, that's quite relative to opinions of many. You can pull off alot of nano fish and still have the same bioload footprint as a clown or less.
BTW did you see my public service announcement thread?

Yah dang. I am like what is all this mumbo jumbo garbage. 5 FISH IN A 25 GALLON TANK IS TOO MANY ALMOST PROBABLY. WTF IN 8 GALLONS ? come on bro, dont be recommending no stuff like that on my thread cause if you have read anything in my threads you would know i dont condemn anything like that. I have almost 5 fish in each of my tank but i am religious about water changes and they are both about a year old established tanks and doing awesome. as far as a hectors goby goes. I would say the tank needs to be at LEAST 6 MONTHS OLD and have a bottle of live copepods put in it about 3 months in that way they would have time to establish and reproduce. I have a hectors goby and he hasnt ever AND I MEAN EVER eaten fish food that i feed my fish or corals. All he ever eats is pods and sifts some sand :) So goodluck with all those fish in an 8 gallon tank. ANd lets not talk about this topic no more because THIS THREAD IS MINE. :) About MY TANK.
Thanks NWDYR and Subielover for getting this guy straight for me!

i just wanted to point out that all I did was ask if the purple fish was good for my tank. I would never put that many fish in my tiny 8 g.
btw, your tank is looking great :)

Yeah HappityLogan, ill post more pics later of the orchid dottyback :) I think you would really enjoy having it, even if its your only fish. I mean it has tons of personality and is a cool fish :) Looks like it has a black mask over its face with the black line going around its eyes.
