Does the tank smell when your in the same room? I can never smell mine unless I take a chunk of live rock out... then It really smells like the sea... but it NEVER smells otherwise, at all....
The algae will grow by itself, but if it's really not coming through, go to your LFS and buy a small rock that has a lot of the good algae on it... you just need a really small amount which will eventually seed your tank...

I take it the side of the room where the tanks at is just going to smell like the sea, also how do I get all the good colors of alge on my live rock? Like green purple red. Now there is just all of this bark brown stuff on it that just looks like dirt.
I never smell my tank, unless I am doing thorough maintenance or I have my nose right up on my tank.
As for the colors, I believe you are referring to coralline algae (which is a calcareous growth). It takes time for this to occur and the coralline must be introduced into the tank (ex. on live rock). It grows at varying rates and is typically seen flourishing on porous surfaces (such as plastic and live rock) prior to flourishing on more rigid surfaces (such as glass). Coralline takes time to appear in a new tank, and since your tank is cycling it will take patience for the growth to come.

I got a few new questions, I'm going to do the shrimp cycle. Method. So do I just drop in a small price of raw shrimp from the supermarket? Also. Should I be doing this now or after the 6 to 8 weeks of cycling?

I missed this thread for a while, lol
I saw a question that I dont think got answered. You said something about live rock you had out of the tank. Have you added it back in yet. If not you can get a clean scrub brush, and scrub it really good in old tank water (water from a water change) stick the rock in a bucket with a powerhead for a week or so. take the brush to it again and rinse in salt water. It should be ready to add back to your tank.
to answer your question about the angel. Is the bi-color a full size or dwarf angel?? a full size is too big for your tank. Look at the pygmy angels. there are some really pretty ones and they would fit your tank better.

Nice colors in your tank!! but your going to have to clean them often. That's why i prefer live rocks lol. Just leave them alone and they look......... natural.
canister filters are ok, but please do consider protein skimmer of any sort because it HELPS tremendously.
nice looking tank though! keep it up and I look forward to it's growth!!
Edit: woah woah woah!!! I just saw that you took all of them out and have live rocks.
looking good!!
