it sucks that things have to be this way, but it is what it is.
if your family cant accept it how do you feel?...your family is supposed to be there for you right? if something as simole as a tattoo made my mom or dad "disown" me then id know they were no good and id be happy...thats just me and 26 years of learning about people...you may have 300 friends but only 1 or 2 will show up when you need them and they are your REAL friends, family the same way

but by the same token, if you had great family, why would u risk that for something so small?

Thanks, Mimzy! His name is Joel Donnigan, and he's located in little ol' Medford, Oregon. I used to live there. Now I have to drive four hours if I want to get work done. :/
Kevin, looks good. :) How many hours do you have going there? I started planning my tattoos when I was 14, so I've had lots of time to pick a theme!
Thanks Laurie!
oh boy so far total in hours gosh! um around 17 hours and not done :( still have to color everythign and when I am done it will be a 3/4 sleeve... so were looking at another 12-14 hours but its worth it and. I am in the military so i cant get a full sleeve or I would.

i can fully understand your dilemma.
but, in the same token, if they are willing to toss you away or disown you because of ink, what does that say about them?
no offense, but once you let religion dictate your life, what makes you different than sheep?

as I said, I'd be "alienating MYSELF' from them. they don't really have a choice but to cut me off at that point, b/c they are governed by a set of rules - and whether or not i accept that set of rules upon MYSELF is irrelevant. Besides, the fact that I do NOT accept those rules is rebellion enough. They haven't cut me off for all my "transgressions" thus far, so they are indeed trying, but having a tattoo is a different story. it's just plain out of the question. I love tattoos, but they are simply not more important to me than my family.

My family doesnt aprove but they accept it because I am on my own and I make my own decisions.... But I get tattoos like I drink water!!! next one after my arm is done I am going to get the top of my foot tattooed up so excited...

i dont care if they are like sheep or not, and neither do they. they don't necessarily embrace individuality like you or i do. you can't speak in your language to someone who speaks another language entirely and have complete understanding.
i have struggled with the religion thing for so many decades, and i have finally learned that i can be whomever i want to be and do whatever i want to do, and still be respectful of my parents. what they don't know doesn't hurt them. and it also doesn't make me an orphan.

Mimzy,
not trying to start anything but you said you love tattoos and family is supposed to love you...you got one that you could hide, what happens when it is found out? who knows how...you did it so how important is your family? my thought is if your family is so important you wouldnt have done it at all...

no offense taken - i have wrestled with this concept myself. i have chosen my own path and followed it, which was a hard enough decision on me. my parents are nurturing and understanding and supportive and wonderful, there are simply some things that are not acceptable to them. There is no excuse, no good explanation, i can not and will not defend them and their views - but i also understand that it would have very little to do with me and them, and everything to do with what they feel G-d has told them.
I do not condone this behavior, I do not agree with it, but I understand it. As I said, it is what it is. It doesn't have to make sense.
...and if they ever find out, well, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

as to that - what would you expect the outcome to be?
and this has been driven far enough off topic - lets see some more tats!

i honestly don't know. sometimes they surprise me - but i've also never been discovered doing anything that was SUCH a massive no-no.

oh yeah I trust mine like no other! this may sound stupid to some people but I kinda jacked my arm up by getting random A@# tattooes with no planning and it looks good now especially when its colored!!! so when I went to him for my tat and he had worked on me before and I said Sean just do whatever just want a koi fish lol... so he threw a koi on there free hand and did majic on me. I love how he threw some skulls in there the spider lilly and he basically filled all my empty space with great stuff lol. he is doing my 3/4 sleeve with no ideas or drawings but I will odviously aprove before I say ahead. but to me its just art ;)

thats cool...i really want a few more tats but it is all depending on my wife...she cried when i got my koi tat...lol...she said that i ruined my body and that the tat was ugly...but since i got all the color in it, she "almost" likes it...she says that she is getting used to it...so only time will tell to see if i get any more...
