Much ado about nothing imo. People are just looking for something to be offended by these days. Maybe not the smartest decision given the knowledge that of course someone somewhere will be offended by it, but watchdog groups really make a lot more out of it then it is. I mean, its perfectly ok for asian people to make fun of white tendencies, but god forbid someone points out any differences in any ethnic minority. And of course, the people usually the most upset by political incorrectness are other white people. Quite honestly, I think the overboard pc is just promoting racism encouraging you to treat minorities differently. And I use the term minority loosely, cause with the billion+ in China I hardly consider Asians a world minority. Thank god for south park, the one show on tv that puts stereotypes and pc on their a$$.

So many people have the opinion that people should be more thick skinned. So many of you sit here saying, "I don't think XYZ is offensive, why can't they just get over it?".
What I don't understand, though, is why it is so important for everyone to have the same sensitivity to racial issues as you? Is there a reason that if something doesn't offend you then it shouldn't offend anyone?
In short, is it soooo hard not to be a jerk... especially regarding racial issues while in a foreign country as an ambassador?

But if we walk around trying not to offend everyone? Isn't worth it.
Personally, I didn't think it was funny, but nothing worth getting your panties in a wad about...

I agree crimzy, just because i dont find it offensive, doesnt mean my chinese buddy shouldnt either. But, on the other hand, the people who do find this offensive are telling me that i should be more careful, and that i should be more sensitive towards some things.
If i dont tell them to get over it, they shouldnt tell me to apologize or change.

Its not important to me at all. I just don't care. Let them be offended. I just don't consider their offense worthy of acknowledgment, much less a national story. Its also not a 2 way street. People make fun of americans and caucasians in general all the time and I don't see it being splashed on the front pages everywhere. Its inconsistent and hypocritical and only encourages racism. Had this story never been considered news-worthy it never would've focused on race in the first place. By drawing national attention to it you only help create a divide.

I think not be tolerant and respectful of different ethnicities is a digression to racial tolerance and equality. As long as it is reciprocated though. Of course people can form and have their own opinions. Somebody's opinion of what they think is innocuous to themselves could be very insulting to another so therefore we should take that into consideration and make more effort for racial sensitivity regardless. ALSO When was the last time you saw on the front page of ANY MAJOR news media where Caucasians in general were being the center or racial bias? I cant think of many or ANY for that matter..

MiaHeat...I don't know about that. They may not make fun of whites in the media as much but I lived in Japan and they have a great time laughing at the expense of the "big, dumb Americans". It isn't as much white people as they talk badly about, it's Americans. A lot of them consider us to be dumb Neanderthals who can barely speak correctly. There were many establishments who would not allow Americans in.

I never said anything about being intolerant or disrepectful. All people should be treated with respect, regardless of race. This particular instance is being made out to be more then it is. If it was the intention of the ad to make fun of asians, then it would obviously be a problem. That wasn't the intent though. I consider the ad an error in judgement because you can predict the reaction, but not racist.
As for why you don't see major news stories about caucasians being the center of racial bias, that is exactly my point. People can make fun of white people and how they can't dance or don't look as athletic and thats perfectly acceptable, but if you point out any obvious physical dissimilarities in any other race then its racist no matter what the intent. Just look at stand up comedy in the US, its considered poor form to pick on any race except your own, unless its white people who are fair game to anyone.
This isn't to say I'd go around my office making slanty eyes at people, I'm not an idiot. *Warning stereotype coming* These are athletes who aren't always known for being the brightest of people and they made a stupid decision to go along with the dumb photographer.

racism is never going to go away until people stop making a point to find it offensive and stop looking for it in every part of life

The strength of the dollar has more of an effect on oil prices in the us then oil prices have an effect on the dollar. Weak dollar = more expensive foreign oil, not vice versa.

I think it is wierd how people always get told that they need thicker skin if they get offended. Wouldn't it just be easier not to go out of our way to do things that we know might offend people? This doesn't mean we have to worry about everything we do in case it offends people, but in many cases it is very obvious what is offensive and it doesn't hurt us to just not do it.
Also, this isn't just some guy offending another. Its a national team of one country, posing for a photoshoot for a published ad. Someone involved should have thought for a second, that hey, this might not be the smartest plan for our ad.
