I understand where some would find this offensive and I do agree it was at the least insensitive.
But, am I seeing this correctly? The guy on lower right is actually using his left middle finger. Quoted in the article by Calderon this was felt to be "...something appropriate, and that it would be interpreted as an affectionate gesture," Sorry, but I've yet to interpret that gesture as affectionate.
