nassarius snails

are supposed to be great for cleaning the sandbed, are they also good for the algae on the glass?

Someone correct here if I'm wrong, but I believe...
You're mistaken. Nassarius snails are scavengers, not algae eaters. They are beneficial to a DSB because the help turn the sand very slowly. They are beneficial to a tank because they eat left over food and decaying stuff that settles on the sand. Mine tend to hang out under the sand until they smell food, then the go nuts. Some go up the glass lookign for food, some travel along the sand. I don't ever recall seeing them on LR.

My snails usually arent that active till they smell the food. Once they know its feeding time they are out speeding around everything. They cruise out of the sand bed on their search any many of the times they do go on the glass. But they only do this during feeding time.

Nassarius snails are detrivores/scavengers.
Cerith Snails can consume detritus, uneaten food, fish waste, and algae
