It's probably going to "Chalise" up now that it's under MH. Caps tend to flatten under VHO (the lagoon) in order to gather more light. If it does like I think then it'll make a really nice bowl.
Time will tell.
I'm wanting it over one of the valleys and centering doesn't necessarily make it stand out more. IMO the fact that your eye keeps gravitating to it means that it's in the right spot.
I'm wondering if I should move my Hammer to a more prominent position. I have it on the far left so it won't sting half the corals in the tank.

I think it looks really nice. Having the monti a bit off center does make a nice look, and breaks up the symetry a bit.

OK. I tried some of the suggestions and here it is again. There's a deep cave right in the center, the front is cleared out, the right valley is wider. I still need a very large rock in back at center-right.
That you for all the great suggestions!! Keep them coming. I like it better already.

Are you using something to glue the rocks together, or just stacking them. If gluing, what are you using?

Bang, I like it. The cave in the middle is kind of "mysterious"
BTW do you have a close up on these zoos? Also I assume they will make it into the display tank. I don't see them in there right now.

It is looking alot better already. I think the only thing I would add would be a single high point off to one side or the other. It looks natural length wise but I think it is a little bit too level.

Asymmetrical layout would add uniqueness and allow a variation in standard lay out..
Yours is looking nice, and I know you like your "open" sand bed, but how about hiding some behind the rocks (rocks toward front) and a longer valley (best seen from end) and sloping layout for more horizontal mounting positions rather than vertical..??

right now you have the 3 seperate sets of rocks.i think you should put some rocks in between them but half as tall.

Squid did you design that?
I think the tank looks good, the variation in rockwork with the canyons is good. Until stuff starts growing in new tank setups always look a bit ackward, as you know.

I tried that on the previous layout with the VHO's. My tank just isn't deep enough. I think that design would be great on the Oceanic 175 bowfront though. It has the extra 6" needed.

OK. I found a tall rock. How's this look? I can mount an Orange Cap in the middle of it but what kind of coral would look good on the rest of it?

Bang,
I really dislike the large flat rock in the back of the tank. In my opinion, it takes your eye off the rest of the tank.
I would try to use a much more uncommon arpoach. The three islands might look better if you connected the two to make two islands -- one smaller and one larger, with a large sandy canyon between the two. I would also try to bring the rockwork closer to the glass for one of the islands -- likely the larger of the two.
If I were to ever redo my rockwork again, I would go with the below:

I AGREE... get rid of the LARGE FLAT ROCK and put a large round one there... that would make it look ALOT better
as far as these two diagrams go, I like the first one best of the two!
but they are very interesting!!!!
I love the valleys and I would inhance them, make them deeper by adding more rock to the top, and longer by bringing some of the rock out the the glass.... I LOVE THE VALLEYS KEEP THEM!!!!!
