I have a Current Prine 1/15 chiller
I don't think it is working right and can not find any trooubleshooting info on it :(
I have tried turning it down....IT Comes on.....temp on the screen goes up.....then quickly goes down

The fan is coming on...I don't think the compressor is though
WHAT DO I CHECK???

You say the temp on the display rises and then drops? But you don't hear the compressor kicking on?
Thinking either the thermostat has gone bad or possibly a bad capacitor. Warranty?

NOPE...Bought it used...is there a way to test for that?......Should I take it to an appliance person??????
Probably Meow if you can find someone familiar with chillers or a/c systems. You could open it up and try to visially inspect the capacitor. Sometimes they will be bulging out or signs of melting and you can easily tell it's bad. But sometimes you need a meter that is able to check the capacitance to tell for sure.
Other then that I don't know what else to really tell ya other than going through and trouble shooting all of the electrical. I suppose it could be a bad thermal sensor, maybe even a relay.

.....Well the tank is staying around 73-74.......thinking the fan alone is helping there
IDK
Is it bad if I keep it running just for the water movement? Obvioously I can't do anything until Monday......as far as inquiring about a repair person anyhow

That sounds pretty cool to me. I have a hard time keeping mine down to 80. Maybe the chiller is still working and the display is just messing up.

LOL...it's the seahorse tank....I was keeping it at 70
I'm pretty sure only the fan is coming on.....I have the chiller turned down to 64 cause I was trying to see if I could hear anything different....and NOPE
I really do not want to have to buy a new one :(

Bummer. If you keep the pump running for flow I don't think it will hurt anything but I'd go ahead and just shut the machine off.

My husband thinks I should just buy a new one.....then have this one looked at.....if it is not too much fix it and either keep it as a spare or sell it

Cool deal. Never used one myself but I see a lot of people using the aqua euros that seem pretty happy with them. I want to say that on this site that either Teresa or Deb has one (not sure) maybe both. It sounds appropriately sized though.

If the compressor is not starting up, it's likely the capacitor for it, the low pressure switch failed, or the thing could be low on freon, and the low pressure switch is keeping it from kicking on (doing it;s job)... The comp motor could be bad/seized, but that's the least likely.
It won't hurt it to cycle water thru it, but if it refuses to come on, i'd just unplug it and let it sit till monday when an appliance dude can look at it. I wish I lived closer to ya, I'd come over and look at it for ya. I have the gauge set and can service several types of freon from r12, r22, & r134

Yeah 8 times out of 10 when I go to service a unit and find the compressor not running it's the capacitor. Or a leak and the compressor has gone out on overload. Capacitors are simple to change if that's all it is.
I'm assuming that it's a closed system as most portable a/c's, wall units, refrigerators etc. are. Tangs Rule, do chillers come with service valves installed on them?
Meow I think this site sells them, is that where you were looking?

All the ones I've seen have at least one svc valve (low side) and most have both lo & hi. The cap would have a temp rating (deg C), a voltage rating (ac volts), and capacity (in farads, either Pf or Uf) - but to access either the cap or svc valve, one would have to open the unit up and access the guts....
One thing meow - i'm 99% sure this won't work, but have you unplugged the chiller for 5 minutes and then plugged it back in and tried to get it to start back up?
just a shot in the dark, but it might work.

Try that Meow, if the compressor went out on overload then it might kick on once it cools down. IME this could take a while depending on how hot it got. Typically I usually seem them go out on overload if the fan has quite running. But like Tangs Rule said, if it has a leak then the low pressure switch probably kicked it off. In which case I don't think that it would come back on if that's the case. But anything is worth a shot. If that don't work, maybe hubby can pop the cover off and look around for the capacitor for it and see if anything looks abnormal with it. The cover should be pretty simple to take off.

LOL...GUESS WHAT......It's working
BUT it seems warm.....so I put a small 4" fan behind the unit to see if that helps
