A lot of internal skimmers have a plate on the bottom that the pump and skimmer body are attached to or pumps sticking out the sides of the skimmer body itself, so those dimensions are going to be bigger than the actual diameter of the skimmer tube itself.

There are a lot of compact skimmers out there. Gotta know where to look ;)

Try checking out the Super Reef Octopuse 2000xp. That's the one I'm going with for my 55g sump and my skimmer chamber is about the same size as yours.

I've seen them advertised at several places for upto 200g average bio load...so I believe 180g is good for heavy load. They are good skimmers...for the price and what I'm hearing you can't go wrong.

I think you'll find that the Octo's get much better reviews. Their new bubble blaster pumps are supposed to be fantastic pumps. And more efficient.

Yeah it just depends on what site you see it at as for what size tank they are advertising it for. I think it's a good choice, you can google it and read up on what other people are saying about it if that helps. But over all they are impressive skimmers for the price.

I recently purchased the Hurricone External Cat2 skimmer for my 225G....OMG....It is a beast......and it is external so sump size doesn't matter......altho you need enough room to put it somewhere

I would highly recommend this skimmer to anyone

I have a mixed reef BTW

i can make room in the stand for a external with a new plumbing job, but can thay set on the floor and still work or do that have to be above the sump water line? that may also be something to look at
