nahh, i really thought about it and asked my mom. its not really noticable. if it was, i would do another coat, but its not. since my room doesnt really have a lot of lighting(dont know why.lol) so you cant really see it. but, we'll see. once i get the tank and put on the light, it might make me change my mind since the light is anohter 130watts of visability. lol
oh, and ive been looking at a used sunpod metal halide fixture for maybe 50-100 bucks. its 70 watts, and if i can get the guy down to 50-75 dollars, im going for it since i have halides on my DT and love the shimmer.

well, it should be dry tomorrow, or today...when i wake up....after i fall asleep....lol
then cure for one or two months. but i'll most likely will have the ten gallon running before it finishes curing cuz i cant wait that long till setting it up. by the time it cures tho, i will have a lot of things figured out, and if i can find some cheap MH, i will have that set up as well.
most likely tho, i will be figuring out powerhead placement while the rock is curing.

ok, finally finished outside. borke the rock up, which was harder than i thought since i made it to thick.

so i guess this will be my base rock. also made another batch, a lot thinner than my first one, so that will hopefully be my "live rock". i will say how light the thing is once all the rock salt disolves. now, its in an outside curing tank with 25% water changes daily for the first one or two weeks. by 25% water change, i mean i will just dump some water out and hose some back in. lol
well enough talking, here are the long awaited pictures.
here you can see the smashed rock. it was pretty tough, i had to break out the hammer.

heres a close up of all the rocks, with a pile of some rubble rock in the front

and heres the little holding tank for the rocks, and the rocks along side

and heres a funny little pictue i just found...wont work as my avatar though

just went out to check on the rocks. most of the rocksalt has disolved and they are pretty light. biggest ones probably weighs 3-4 pounds. not to bad. lets hope the other rocks will be lighter. :)

i also have a question. will 130watts of PC be good enough for softies and LPS?
i want some Metal halides, but it seems they can get pretty pricey for fixtures, and i only want a fixture on this tank.
and if i do use the PC's, is there anyway i can get the shimmer?

well, since i want to keep this a low budget thing, im going to light the tank up with 130watts of PC. i know is good for softies, not sure about LPS. any help on that is appreciated.
and is there anyway to get the shimmer while running the PC's? mine has moon lights, but that wont give it the shimmer as it is drowned out by the PC's..

Just find the right mixture of bulbs, but still wont be good as MHs...
Ull be able to keep any LPS you want under those lights in a 10 gal. Aint lieke that tank has a lot of depth to travel down to the bottom

How much are you getting the 130 watt PC fixture for?
actually, i already had it from a previous tank, my first reef that i setup by my self and not 50/50 with my brother. i originally paid 200 for it and i feel i got riped off. but now, it was free. (((

Thanks man, will be finished with the stand today. and i painted the back of the tank black as well.
and here are some pictures
made in june 08

more rocks. they look a lot better than the first batch since they are skinnier

a little farther away.

tank on the unfinished stand before i painted the back. with the light

my handicaped lights. lost one leg during the move. i made it fit pretty snug, but will be getting new legs later this week.

Loks like your off to a good start. But i see an issue with your light. That beening that its hanging over the sides of the tank and you will not get all 130w into the tank.If i were you i would look into a 20in cpf light for about 100$.Its 80w thats what i have on my 10g and i can keep softies and lps fine.I have been told i can get some simple sps under that to by some local reefers but i dont have the flow in that tank for them.
