Nemo's 10 gallon tank diary

last night i was pretty busy. i caught the lunare wrasse and put him in the QT until i can find a buyer.
and for the ten gallon, washed everything up, emptied the tank, washed the tank, and made some RO water and filled it up and i added salt too. not all the salt is disolving, so should i just remove some water and fill up some fresh water? and the tank is sorta foggy, so i was thinking of running some carbon until it clears up, then put in some LR rubble in the HOB.
PS. the tank looks pretty much the same. will be adding the sand once i get the carbon going and the water clears up. and i get the temperature stable. then i will post pics! in the mean time, if anyone wants to see the display tank, i could snap a few of that. i know you guys just love pics.

Don't do anything. Just add ro water, add salt, add a powerhead for water movement and let it sit for a day so all the salt can dissolve and so the water will clear up. Don't add any carbon, you don't need it. Its normal for the water to be cloudy in the beginning, it will clear up by the end of the day.

ok. thanks.
and as for the sunpod, the guy was asking 150 dollars for it, so i wont be buying it. i will stick with the PC's for now.

Go for the sunpod if it is in good working and visual condition. It is a decent price and you will be very happy with the light, oh and probably wish you had done it in the near future. Coral Keeper has the right idea. Balance the cost of replacing your bulbs against the new fixture.

it will only cost around 50 dollars or so to change out the bulbs. i know is a good deal. i mean, i bought these PC's for 200 when i first got in the hobby, but i cant afford soemthing that expensive. especailly since im going to get a new lens for my camera.
oh, and i just went to the LFS and picked up some pink zoos. there are about 45-50 polyps for only 20 bucks. BUT, they are pretty small. will post pics once they are accimilated.

hmm... thinking about it, instead of getting new bulbs in the future, should i just go with the nova extreme T5 HO fixture? its 24 inches and has two 24 watt bulbs, so it would give me 48watts total. only 60 dollars. are those any good?

nope. rocks are still curing. i will probably add the sand today, and will get some pics up. any help with the T5 question is appreciated also.

well, added the sand. and as filtration, it a HOB with some DIY live rock rubble in there. the tank has cleared up quite a bit, but still stuff on the glass from the sand that i need to clean off. i dont think i will use the power head as it moves around the sand. i want to have a nice flat sand bed in this tank, hopefully to be home for a clam or two.
also have been looking into some T5's latley since they are cheaper then MH, usually. anyway, i found this good 2 foot fixture that has two lamp, individual reflectors, and its only 80 bucks. doesnt come with the lamps though. or the 2 foot, 4 lamp one that costs 120 dollars. still thinking about which one to get. what do yall think?
4 lamp one for 120
2 lamp one for 80
4 lamps= 96 watts
2 lamps= 48 watts
4 lamps= 9.6 watts per gallon
2 lamps= 4.8 watts per gallon
so if you were me, which would you get? keep in mind this tank isnt very deep...

Yea, i was also leaning toward the 4 lamp one, but with the total cost of bulbs, it gets close to 200 dollars. the 2 lamp gets close to 120. still thinking about it. if i can sell the PC fixture. are you intrested? im coming down to atlanta this weekend.

ok, well, i will get pictures up by noon tomorrow of the empty tank and stand. then, i will be going out of town for about a week. hopefully, if my mom keeps up with the rocks, i will be a week closer to adding them to the tank.
and while in atlanta, i will be picking up a macro lens for my camera

and i think i finally made my decision to keep the PC's until i need to change out the bulbs, or find a deal to good to pass up.

ohh.. i just saw a hell of a deal on another forum. this guy is selling some stuff, which includes two clams. like, 3-4 inches, both for 20 dollars each! i hope he holds one or both of them for me until this little tank is ready! i would put them in my display tank, but i have a trigger. sure he doesnt eat softies, but im sure he would like a nice soft clam. i just hope he holds them for me...

ok. so i just tested the water, and everything is perfect. DANG! lol. so i guess the sand wont start the cycle like i hoped, so i threw in a raw shrimp. now i just have to wait. i also believe that my rock is ready. will do a little 'test' to see if they are.
oh, and how long before i remove the shrimp? or should i just let it decay and 'disappear'?
