Gold Banded Maroon.......Hes killed more coral in my tank than anything by nipping and moving them.I think i would not add turbo snails either, they have damaged many of my coral as well.

Yellow ** Do not try to get around the filter by putting symbols into curse words -Sep Tang. Any fish I try to add meets its certain death from the tail whip. I'm surprised the wrasse came up and not old yellow...

I have 2...1st..RACCOON BUTTERFLY...Not only does it eat coral, it's mean
2nd...sand sifting goby..I'll admit that it's a neat fish, BUT it digs too many holes under the rock, and is always dropping sand on my corals and rock...so I always have to blow stuff off with the baster....got rid of the raccoon, still have the sand sifter.

Maroon clown = spawn of SATAN!
Maroon clown has my vote, along with the yelow tail devils from years ago. I had to pull all but one rock to remove them for a transfer to the 100g.

Maroons are great fish; if you treat them as the aggressive fish they are (especially the big females). Many folks buy them as juvis and are surprised when they don't have little Nemo anymore.
Edit: I just looked at 3 online dealers; all 3 describe Maroons as aggressive or bold. A little research will go a long way.

Never said they weren't great fish, just meaner than demons. So..."never again"

Right now I don't have enough experience to comment on salt water fish, but I have an Electric Blue Johanni that I HATE! It is the devil!

I see your point. But; if you knew they were mean; why get one in the first place? Assuming you didn't have similar, aggressive fish that would be proper tankmates? Maroons are terrors to smaller, more passive fish. But, IMO & IME, do very well with bigger, more aggressive fish. My take on this thread, the sixline stories are examples, is what fish looked good on its reputation---then became a bad decision.

So, Joe, this is a fantastic thread for those of us trying to plan out our stock list. Have you also done one about the really awesome fish that every community tank should have?? I would be very interested to hear your list!

Ditto, I love this thread and would love to see the above suggestion expanded upon.
Happy Trails, Tracy

Dragon Goby... Def.. He's a sandsifter but he makes sure to unload about halfway up the tank so I have to blow sand off the rocks and coral at least twice a day.

He does fine with the only "fish" tankmate which is a trigger. But now, years into it, we would like to add another fish. The maroon limits our ability to add a tankmate. So I will never again assume that my wife will be happy with the same 2 fish for years and years. I suppose that if we had a higher mortality rate it would not be an issue, but at some point it would be nice to add a fish to the display without having it murderized by the clown. If we get to the point where we simply have to have more livestock then the 55, which has been empty for over a year, will get refilled. It will not receive a maroon or tomato clown or yellow tails.
So...in regards to Joe's original questions, "if I had to restock my tank with fish again which one would I definitely leave off the list." and "which of the fish currently in your tank would you NOT reintroduce and why.",
I must answer maroon clownfish.

Yeah; maroons sure are on the list of fish that won't tolerate newcomers. Just a suggestion; if you can give the maroon a "timeout" in QT or somewhere while you introduce another fish; you can often the return the maroon and things can work. Not always, but this works very often with very territorial fish.

No one has mentioned a cowfish!? I am looking to add one to my tank but am scared cause of his little ability to add toxins into the water when stressed. Its seems to be a rare thing though if given a big tank, I have 125 gallon with a puffer tang and clowns.
So does anyone thing the cowfish should be in this thread or are they ok to keep if monitored?

Just a note, my yellow tail damsel is doing great. He does not mess with anyone. my other fish are a yellow tang,2 clowns, cleaner shrimp, sand sifiting goby. He was added last though. If I can get any blue in my tank I go for it, the purple and blue mix very well.

My experience with yellow tails is that they are like evil monkeys. By themselves, they are manageable. In groups...that's another story. They pillage, maim and murder like hooligans at a soccer match. YMMV.
